5 Unique Hobbies to Explore with Your Child

Hobbies are an important part of self-exploration that can teach your child a lot about themselves. They can help them to explore their passions, internal motivations and find hidden talents that they didn’t even know of. We have teamed up with a prep school in Belgravia to share 5 unique hobbies that you can explore with your child.

Crochet

Crochet is a handicraft similar to knitting. The only difference is that it requires a single hooked needle to loop directly on to the piece as opposed to using two long needles to extend it. Research has also found that crocheting is good for the mind as it increases the body’s serotonin which reduces anxiety and improves sleep.

Quilting

Quilting is a great way to upcycle old clothes and teach your child about recycling. It is very inexpensive as all they’ll need is scrap fabric and a sewing kit as it can be done by hand. This can help them to improve on their hand eye coordination and creative thinking skills as they jigsaw old pieces of fabric together to create a functional piece of art.

Collecting

Children love finding things and collecting is a great way for them to do that. They can collect almost anything from coins to stamps. The best thing about this is that it’s relatively inexpensive as even train tickets can be collected. There are also many groups of collectors online that they can connect with to share their finds. This hobby is a good one for children as it allows them to expand on their knowledge and researching skills as they learn about their collectibles.

Magic

Children love to pretend that they have superpowers and magic is something that they’ll have no problem staying interested in. As your child masters new tricks and puts on performances, their confidence and self-esteem will grow. A lot of research also goes into understanding how to perform tricks, allowing them to fine tune their research and problem-solving skills.

Comic Book Art

Comic books are very popular amongst children as they tell stories in a much more engaging way by allowing them to follow stories frame by frame. By creating comic book art, your child can learn about how to create more expressive art that tells stories. This can help them to explore their imagination and offer a step into film making.
