Aqua Wipes!
I’m not going to spin you a line and try to make you believe that Raffie, a third baby, had all his brand new baby grows washed in Fairy non bio before he was even born because let’s be realistic, the babies who get that are first borns and That. Is. Where. It. Stops!
There’s lots of things I did with my first baby, things which seemed mega important at the time like making sure she didn’t even know that refined sugar existed, didn’t wear character motifs on her clothing and played primarily with wooden toys… Raffie on the other hand had his first taste of Dutty Donalds at the ripe old age of 6 months when he tucked into his brothers fried with gusto. You live and learn and actually, if you’re me, the learning involves going for an easy life on occasions – it can’t all be making date ball sweets and mixing breast milk with sweet potatoes!
However… There is one thing I have remained as strong as ever on and that’s skin care. It drives Jonny mad but I’m really keen that Raffie has all the same oils and things that go on his skin as the big two. I notice when we use things which aren’t as natural and that might contain parabens or other nasties, their skin can become sore, but when I stick to using use my faves like the Calendula range from Weleda, Tropika oils and Aqua Wipes his skin never so much as even goes slightly red at the end of the day.
I’m not a funny Mummy about much but when it comes to skincare I do stick with the things I know that work and look after my baby’s skin – that;s important to me. Raffie is two now but we always keep the same routine, especially at bath and bed time (which is a laugh as there is no bed about bath and bed time in our house but the bath certainly happens)!
And I choose Aqua Wipes because they are made with 99.6% purified water and are completely biodegradable. I wont use a cloth nappy because I won’t enjoy the added extra to the washing pile and life is too short, we make other choices to save the planet and for me 3 or 4 (at most) nappies in a 24 hour period is less troubling to the planet than running my washing machine ten to the dozen anyway so why make life more difficult. Same with wipes. I won’t use reusables but knowing that these are biodegradable makes it even more enticing to me as like I said, I won’t do certain things but will try and do others and offset where I might make a dent. These wipes are also suitable for vegans by the way (Raff sucks on them if he can, not that he’s a vegan but good job they have nothing nasty in them) so if that’s a key element to your lifestyle it’s worth noting.
Are they more expensive? Yes. I won’t lie. On the whole they are but they do often have offers on in the shops and buying in bulk is good when that happens. Another massive bonus for me is that they are really wet – you could actually ring one out they are so wet yet they don’t drip if you don’t squeeze! I reckon I use 75% less wipes when using Aqua Wipes because they are so wet. For every 4 normal wet wipes you only need one Aqua Wipe AND the lids always seal down again and the packets never rip. So… A bit more expensive but I reckon you might actually save in the long run!
We use them every day, not just for bottoms, but also around the house, when doing arts and crafts, and even wiping the table after dinner. They’re great!
I was gifted some Aqua Wipes but I am a customer.
