It’s been a while since I’ve been to a Bella Italia although I’ve always enjoyed meals there in the past and found them to have a really good menu for children too. I didn’t, however, know that they serve breakfast; in my mind I assumed they were a lunch time and evening place to be really and it simply hadn’t occurred to me until I was invited to pop along with Jimmy and try the menu last week. Apparently they have been serving breakfast for a whole year and I’ve only just found out, still… better late than never!
As well as sampling the most important meal of the day we got to see them attempt to break the world record for the highest pancake stack and see the new interior which is bright and colourful so much changed from the brown, orange and fairly dark restaurant of old. Not all restaurants have transformed in decoration (yet) but this one just of Leicester Square is one of the first and it’s a good move!
Jimmy and I were impressed with the options and after choosing fresh orange juice and cooked breakfasts all round we tucked into a hearty meal to set us up for a long day out in London. We could of course have made healthier choices but, you know, well… we didn’t on this occasion!
I thought it was most delicious and they cooked my eggs exactly as I asked. I’m funny about eggs and they have to be just so for me! They were also very kind to Jimmy who was being a royal pain in the bottom by chucking his knife and being a bit of a monkey but they took it all in their stride and brought him a new knife (twice) and didn’t roll their eyes at him once. Not sure I could have maintained that level of a calm face with someone else’s child being a bit naughty in a restaurant.
I was disappointed my big breakfast didn’t come with beans but they said I would be able to swap something or add something if I so chose and it was a bit of a shame that they didn’t serve any decaf options or herbal teas. Howvere the orange juice was very good, so good Jimmy drank mine and the ingredients used were top quality for sure. Meaty sausages and bacon cooked to perfection all served with delicious Italian ciabatta toasted bread.
And then it was onto the pancake stack! Unfortunately we couldn’t stay to see if the record was broken but we enjoyed watching them start!
After being impressed with the breakfast it has reminded me that Bella Italia is a child friendly, easy on the pocket and extremely delicious restaurant that we MUST visit again soon. I wonder if Florence, who is very firm on her favourite restaurant (another Italia chain) would enjoy Bella Italia as much… I’ll let you know, we might be popping along for lunch with friends soon so will definitely be reporting back!
We were invited to breakfast at Bella Italia.
We eat at our local Bella Italia very often as they do a gluten free option which is important to me.
