When I had Florence I didn’t really think much about what bra to wear. I went to John Lewis, got measured (by a rather rude lady actually which is strange for John Lewis I have to say) and bought the bra she told me to in multiples. So, that’s the one I wore. The way she treated me made me think it was really the only option I had and other than asking if it came in black I didn’t question her at all. If I hadn’t at least asked that question I would have ended up with it in white which I really wouldn’t have wanted. She was so unhelpful and so domineering I ended up with a bra which was fine for the day time but which was utterly rubbish at night. I was advised to wear it all the time so that’s what I did but it was NEVER comfortable to sleep in and when you’re a newly breastfeeding mother you HAVE to sleep in a bra with breast pads or you end up changing the bed every day after a deluge of milk pours all over the covers… With Jimmy, having been blogging for some time and being sent lots of lovely products to review for it, I was a little bit more savvy. I knew I wasn’t going to have the same ropey old style of bra which although comfy in the day time looked appalling and like a Granny bra even when brand new in the box and I was lucky enough to be sent all sorts of nursing lingerie by lots of different companies to try! It is because I have tried so many that I think I really can advise honestly which ones I think are best.
So, day time bras is a whole other story (I’ve had some really good ones for that too) but today I want to talk about what I like to sleep in. That’s the area I found SO uncomfortable when I was a feeding Mummy for the first time so it’s something I was really keen to get right with my second baby. The same things apply at night for a lot of purposes, the bra needs to be easily accessible for example but it does n’t need to be stiff or particularly shapely now does it… Just something which will do the job while still being comfortable enough to be in bed whilst wearing… Not that you get much sleep as a Mummy to a new-born but you know, for the odd occasion when you might be able to doze off, it’s nice to at least FEEL like you’re not wearing a bra!
Cake Lingerie make some beautiful items for both the day and the night and I was lucky enough to be sent the Cotton Candy Luxury Seamless Bra and knickers to review not for my blog but for Bizziebaby, a review website I’m a member of. I am absolutely under no obligation whatsoever to write about them on my blog but I’ve enjoyed using them so much that I really feel I want to share about them. I have been wearing them at night and I absolutely love them!
The website suggests this set as something to wear in the early stages of pregnancy as well as at night and for immediately after birth and I can see why. It’s really very comfortable and soft so feels very gentle. It has a T back and although it does have a traditional looking bra clasp at the back I found I never needed to use mine as it would just go over my head like a T-shirt. I think I can liken the material to that of a swimming costume but with less of a sheen. It really does give support but it looks and feels (when in your hands) like it won’t. It has traditional clasps to undo at each corner which pull down to enable feeding but again I have found it just stretches down and I don’t even need to use these. The knickers are very comfortable also and just right for post birth although I have to say they do look a bit granny like! The thing is though, once you’ve given birth a bit of Granny knicker is just right… The material for the set is in no way ‘sexy’, they do make much more attractive pieces and I’m now looking at perhaps getting another more pretty set for the day time (still feeding and no plans to stop) but this set is so comfortable that it doesn’t have to be really…
All in all I have been enjoying using this set and one of the best qualities has been that it still fits me even though I have lost weight. You don’t buy in traditional bra sizes so there’s no need for measuring and it stretches with you. I bought it in small (the smallest size) and am a UK size 10-12, the size was perfect for me but they go up to XL should you need something bigger and I really do think that with a bigger bosom it would still work. This has been the perfect night-time bra for me and I have even worn it to the gym (on a very rare trip) which gives you an idea of how supportive it is!
I have not been asked to write this article and nor have I been paid to do so.
