When I was little ‘Care Bears’ were all the rage and I was absolutely besotted with them! I remember playing with mine at my Grandma’s house along with my ‘Rainbow Bright’ and my ‘My Little Ponies’ which were other favourites. ‘My Little Ponies’ have had a bit of a resurgence in recent years which is lovely and ‘Apple Jack’, which was my first one ever, is the only original still in the line up. I often wondered how long it would take before ‘Rainbow Bright’ and the ‘Care Bears’ also made a reappearance?
Well, we might have to wait a while longer for ‘Rainbow Bright’ and her gang but we don’t have to wait any longer at all, I am pleased to be able to say, for the ‘Care Bears’ because they’re back, well and truly! With toys and even an app to go with them they have hit the shelves in time for Valentine’s Day. Funnily enough, just like ‘Apple Jack’ from the ponies, my first ever ‘Care Bear’ was ‘Tender heart’ and he is back on the scene too. When I had my ‘Tenderheart’ bear I remember thinking it was a bit disappointing that I had a brown one when I’d have rather had something of the pink variety but over time, he became very special to me so when I was sent a giant ‘Tenderheart’ bear this week it made me go all nostalgic – well, they have been around since 1983 which is almost as old as me!
The medium sized Tenderheart plush (RRP £17.99) measures 14 inches tall and comes complete with a DVD featuring an episode of the new animated series while the large Tenderheart plush (RRP £24.99), like my new one, is 20 inches tall. There are other ‘Care Bears’ to collect but I’m rather fond of old ‘Tenderheart’ and I will be giving mine to Florence and Jimmy on Valentine’s Day – spreading the ‘Care Bear’ love through the generations!
The new Care Bears toy range will be available in 2015 from leading retailers nationwide. For stockist details, please call 01702 200660 or visit www.vividtoysandgames.co.uk.
