We are of course Rock ‘n Roller babies in this house! Why? Because Daddy is a musician!
The children, I think, have inherited his musical talents for both singing and playing instruments and with no encouragement whatsoever they pretend to be singing into microphones and play guitars! Florence has long had an electric style guitar to play with from The Early Learning Centre and Jimmy has a lovely little wooden acoustic one! They really are little rock stars in the making!
It was absolutely fab then to be sent the Sing Along Star Microphone also from The Early Learning Centre so that we could review it. It’s advised for ages 3+ and I knew it would be up Florence’s street but I also knew Jimmy, although technically too young for it, would also love it!
He thinks it’s fab and tries to wrestle it from his sister at every opportunity! We’ve tried to get him to play with her guitar, something he would usually jump at the chance of, while she sings but he’s rather fond of being a front man himself!
Florence does get to have a go though and to say she’s keen is a bit of an understatement! She’s even thought of a fab name for her and her brother’s band! Take a look at ‘Down The Street’s’ first performance with Jimmy on guitar to accompany lead singer Florence!
It’s brilliant and it really does work! It’s actually a very effective microphone which is the main bit for Florence and what she has been after but to accompany it there are also some lovely features.
It has ten backing tunes of well known children’s songs like ‘If You’re Happy And You Know It’ but you can also connect your MP3 player so you can choose what songs you want to sing along to!
There is a record to sing play feature which will record a short sentence or song and you can hear it played back in the style of three classic tunes. We did some very funny rapping – when I say we I mean Daddy!
The microphone stand is height adjustable and the microphone can also be removed for more free styling!
On the base of the stand are drum like pads to tap with your feet for applause and different beats as well as a flashing disco light at the front!
There is a volume dial – just thought I’d mention!
All in all we think it’s great and very good quality! Toys like this were either VERY expensive or just didn’t work when I was little so I’m always astounded at how good things are these days. ELC is brilliant for lots of different toys and their prices are fabulous! This is just £20!
I have not been paid to write this post but I was sent
the microphone for the purpose of review.
I bloody love ‘Down the Street’, particularly Jimmy’s impro hand waving during Flobo’s second solo! xxx
