How to boost your child’s creativity

Which child doesn’t enjoy some down time colouring whilst the rain pours outside or getting cosy in bed with their toys and books? Creative activities are more than just fun for little ones, they are known for having long term benefits on your child’s health and development. Creativity is well known for improving cognitive abilities, mood and overall wellbeing. This is usually why you will find children to be in their calmest state, when taking part in creative activities. Read on for tips on how to boost your child’s creativity, as advised by this independent school in Devon.

Encourage your child to play with building toys

When it comes to children’s toys, it can become blinding when it comes to the large selection that is on offer to them. Toys such as Lego and blocks are a great way for children to work on their creativity as they are designed to be used in more than one way. Allow your child plenty of time to get their thinking caps on, whilst challenging them to create something that they have a genuine interest in. For example, if you know your child has a deep love for aircraft, encourage them to make their own plane out of Lego or blocks. By giving your child an idea of what the end goal will be, it will help them figure out what materials they may need to complete their activity. This is a fantastic way to work on problem solving skills as well, as they improvise and work with what they are provided with.

The sky is not your limit

As a child, one of the most interesting things to learn about is space. This because it captures their imaginations, making it the perfect activity to explore when practicing creativity. There are a handful of academic and creative activities that can be found online and in books to help build your child’s appreciation for outer space. From papier Mache projects at home to visiting your local planetarium, there are so many ways to help foster this love in your child.

Cook together

Cooking may seem like a mundane task but is in fact a work of art in itself. Whilst it can be a chaotic activity to complete, especially with little children, it is definitely a great option to help your child pick up an important life skill whilst boosting their creativity. Start simple with cookies or a trifle. Sticking to dishes that don’t require much heat will be the easiest as it means your child will be able to participate in every step. The treat at the end is just an added bonus!

Collaboration.
