Laundryheap!

Other mums will get this… Every single day I do a specific chore in my house, yet despite the relentlessness of it being done daily, it doesn’t ever get finished. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY! I am, of course, talking about the blinking laundry and I never, ever find the bottom of the pile – do you?!

Occasionally I think I might get to the bottom with a bit of a frenzy on the old washing machine assault but it doesn’t come to fruition. Once or twice I actually think in the moment that I’ve achieved it only to realise the celebrations were premature and while the last load was being hung out, more has been flung into the basket by another member of the household – before I have time to think about it there’s a whole new load to be put on.

WHERE does it come from? And why, oh why, does a small baby create so much more of it? For never is the washing pile as voluptuous or overflowing as when we have a newborn in the house!

I had my first baby while we were living in a tiny terraced flat in East London. It was, essentially, half a house and we didn’t have the half that came with the garden, or the washing line, more’s the pity. Suddenly I was inundated with washing teeny, tiny items of clothing but in volumes that could have clothed 12 adults if it had all been sewn together and that is when the tale of the never ending laundry basket began!

By the time she was 6 months old I had requested a heated airer as my birthday gift. I’d gone from the sort of girl who wanted spa days and facials for her treats, to a mum in her slippers wanting nothing more than a clothes airer that would heat up and get the clothes dry quicker so that another batch could be put on it before bed time… I mean sad, or what?! The washing kind of took over my life and I don’t think it’s ever stopped… What I SHOULD have been asking for however, the clever Mummy answer in fact, would have been a month’s worth of laundry service (I mean more obvs but not to sound greedy and Laundryheap DO offer pre paid bundles so I’m thinking… Perfect gift!) from Laundryheap.co.uk who would have saved me from the interminable pile and picked up 6kg loads, washed them at 30 degrees for me and sent them back after drying. Now, while asking for the airer may have made me a right saddo, asking for this would have made me a GENIUS!
