Ministry of Science came to Norwich Theatre Royal yesterday and the big kids and I caught the evening performance which was a science show like no other we’ve seen (and we’ve seen quite a few thanks to our love of the Science Museum in London)!
Ministry of Science brings scientific experiments live to the stage in what can only be described as a roller coaster of fun! They say to keep your head firmly on your shoulders, and your arms, legs and feet inside the ride at all times because Ministry of Science Live EXPLODES – and they were’t telling porkies!
This is not your ordinary science show – it comes with a bang. It comes with a whoosh. But most of all it comes with a hovercraft built on stage…. Oh, and a Human Cannon too! Fingers in ears advised…. But it may be loud and raucous yet it is also fun and mighty and Florence and Jimmy smiled from ear to ear the entire time we were at the show enjoying all the audience participation as well as the wonder on the stage! I don’t think they even considered how much they were learning but learning all the time they were and coming home immediately wanted to try some of the experiments at home (transferring energy from a big ball to a small I’m down with – home made hovercrafts using leaf blowers perhaps not)!
We are quite well visited when it comes to the theatre and see all sorts of shows but never before have we seen anything like this. If your child isn’t particularly keen on sitting still for what would be described as a regular stage experience then this might be just the introduction they need to something at the theatre. It has lights and drama and the setting but it also has something of the explosive like Britain’s got talent which might just be the ticket for them!
It’s fun and non conforming while the performers/scientists are AMAZINGLY talented both at what they are doing live on stage with the experiments, and in which they interact with their young audiences. The show is quite literally brilliant and once again I have to say BRAVO Norwich Theatre Royal for inviting such compelling theatre for younger people to your stage. It’s always worth checking out what Norwich Theatre Royal have coming up for youngsters because often they are one time performances only moving onto other theatres the next day such as this one (check out where Ministry of Science is going next on their website www.ministryofscience.org) and for instance during half term they will have Dinosaur World Live for two dates only – another show we already know we can recommend to you!
Going to the theatre is important, what you see is only important to you. We are each different with our artistic likes and dislikes so we are just super lucky that the Norwich Theatre Royal caters for all. I have seen such an eclectic mix of performances on this stage and this one is right on up there with some of the best musical tours in the country – different genre sure but it’s equally as good and I wouldn’t mind betting there’s lots more where this came from at Norwich Theatre Royal coming soon!
We were invited to see the show as guests if the theatre.
