If you’re a Mum like me then you won’t find too much time to think about being romantic for Valentine’s Day let alone make minutes to plan for it. I’ve heard that when out for dinner on V Day some people play the game of trying to guess which couples have been together for years and which are newly attached. I feel it shouldn’t be terribly hard to work out if we could only get a glimpse of the underwear the ladies are wearing! New couples would almost certainly see expensive, new and frilly while old ones, like me, are more likely to be wearing ancient nursing bras without matching briefs… Thing is, while it’s a lovely idea, do we really want to spend out on underwear which will be grey and old before we can wash it twice and let’s face it… hardly ever worn? But I don’t want to turn into a frump either so with La Perla and Fig leaves off my shopping budget and no time to peruse the high street what can I do?
Well… Pick something up in the supermarket of course! I’m in there enough and actually it’s where I get loads of my clothes these days – they’re pretty great too. Sainsbury’s even have the likes of fashion royalty in Gok Wan designing for them so I don’t even think it’s something to keep under your hat! But underwear? Really? I can report that the answer is a great big ABSOLUTELY! They have lots of lovely matching items and for Valentine’s Day Sainsbury’s have gone all out. What’s really caught my eye is the nightwear especially on sale for this most romantic of weeks. I might wear my old nursing bra and non matching briefs while out to dinner but when we get home I shan’t shuffle into my warm fluffy pyjamas (comfy as they are) but instead into something a little more pretty!
What do you think of my new nightie and short pyjamas? Not so mumsy now eh!
Both of these gorgeous items from the Sainsbury’s Valentine’s range are just £12 and can be picked up and thrown in the trolley with the toilet paper and cleaning materials. No effort or thought necessary and yet at the end of the night when we roll home at the rock ‘n’ roll time of about 10pm I will look like I’ve made masses and put in a lot of thought!
So, I definitely have something appropriate to slip into when we get back and we’re definitely going out for dinner somewhere but we only just realised that we’d be in a position to do so which means we’ve left it a bit late in the day. We’re going to be in Norwich meaning my Mum can babysit for us but where we will be when we’re playing the game of how long the other couples have been together is anybodies guess? My top choice would be something Italian or French but all my fave restaurants like Cafe Rouge seem to be booked up – that’s what you get for leaving things to the last minute!
Cafe Rouge actually had their own little ‘couples game’ for Valentine’s Day where they completed a ‘Hottest Couples in History’ survey. Apparently Napoleon and Josephine are considered a hotter couple than Michelle and Barack Obama but Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor are the hottest couple of all time! I could just see Liz sauntering about in my new pink nightie so I will try and channel the pair of them as we make our decisions on the other diners – wherever we end up!
I was sent some night wear from Sainsbury’s for the purpose of an honest review.
