There’s a Mum I chat to at the school gates who has a 9 month old baby as well as two big ones. She often has that very definite look of a woman who’s been up all night with a non sleeper and as I sympathised with her the other day, remembering the feeling oh so vividly (not that Jimmy sleeps much better now he’s 3), it made me wonder at how she manages to get her older girls ready for school, look presentable herself (she may look tired but she always looks immaculate) AND do the night shift with a tiny one? I barely manage it all now and we don’t even have night feeds in my house anymore!
When I was up all night with mine when they were little I very often didn’t get out of the house until at least lunch time. I can’t imagine throwing into the mix an older pair getting ready for school! I suppose needs must and as I want to go for round three on the baby front perhaps I should start considering ways I might save a bit of time so that I CAN do it all. AND clearly ask this Wonder Woman for some tips!
When I am tired, which is pretty much ALL the time for the last six years (I may not do night feeds anymore but Jimmy is still up at least once every night), I forget the most ridiculously annoying things. The other day I forgot to put my bra on. I got it out ready to wear but somehow I found myself at the school, sending Florence in to class while RUNNING around the playground trying to catch Jimmy and there I found out, I REALLY shouldn’t be running anywhere!
So you can see why I’m tired and unfortunately it’s not just items of scaffolding clothing I forget to put on. A couple of weeks ago I was completely out of wet wipes AND Pampers and because I only found out JUST at bed time (Jimmy only wears them for bed you see) I was a bit stuffed. Jonny working away in the week means I HAVE to remember things in the day time when I can do something about it and not JUST before the night time story when everything is meant to be winding down. What did I do? Well, remember that scene in Three Men and a Baby where they make shift a nappy out of cotton wool and a tea towel? It wasn’t QUITE that bad but not far off it!
I don’t seem to learn though, yesterday, totally by fluke and not organisation, I realised we had no clean school uniform the night before we would need clean school uniform. Great that I remembered in time to do something about it but of course, we had no washing machine liquid either. I had to ask my friend to nip in for 5 minutes on her way past so that I could go to the shop. It was inconvenient and annoying but sleep depravation doesn’t care about how annoyed you’ll be when you have forgotten something, it simply laughs at you for being so useless.
What I should have done was order on line. When I could sit down, think strategically through what we need and don’t and make a money and time saving shop because I could be doing it at leisure. Is it any wonder I forget things when I have to take the children with me, when we’re all hungry and washing uniform or buying nappies isn’t at the front of my mind because Kinder Eggs are being begged for and my tummy is rumbling… It’s obvious really isn’t it?!

She’s working with Pampers to spread the word about their Wonder Week of deals as they work with selected online retailers across the UK to give you a week of amazing deals, helping your little one sleep soundly, and wake up giggling!
Jasmine’s top tips:
- Buying in bulk might seem like a big investment up front, but making a larger one-off payment can reap big rewards over time
- The best bulk deals can often be found online & can make shopping a lot easier! Spend time finding the best online deals and then relax whilst your bulk order gets delivered direct to your door
- Did you know you can get big discounts bulk-buying nappies and wipes? Several supermarkets have offers on Pampers nappies and wipes if you bulk-buy right now. Find out more at http://www.pamperswonderweek.co.uk
- When it’s gone it’s gone with most special offers in supermarkets, so keep an eye out for these deals – purchase things like extra bedding for a cot gifts for friends little ones, or anything else and store them for later
- Try and avoid buying products in bulk you haven’t used before; stick to tried and tested products for your family like Pampers and Fairy!
