I remember as a child being thoroughly engrossed by the way my Mum collected coupons to save money on our shopping. She was super thrifty and if anything was going, any deal or any stamp book for money off the things she needed and she was totally on it! She had to be because back then she was a single Mum paying a mortgage entirely on her own. She juggled supply teaching (when she could get the work) with looking after me and she managed the bills with difficulty so any extra money to be saved had to be found.
She would go to all the different super markets to find who had what on offer and then go back again (on foot or her bike as she doesn’t drive) to take advantage of the best deals. She’s brilliant! I remember licking the stamps and putting them in the book for her for one particular shop and I used to really enjoy helping; it was something that we did together.
These days of course we don’t have to traipse around from shop to shop in order to find who has the best money off, BOGOFs and the like as we can simply look it all up on line. My Mum still makes the savings but now she can sit in her living room and find what’s best to buy and she does! She absolutely still does! I think once a parent you aleways do! My Mum told me the only time in her life that she could walk around the shops and not worry about prices was before she had me and then when a family came along it all changed. I think it’s the same for all of us. Babies cost money so we have to be super savvy!
This is why I have to tell you about an awesome deal that Pampers are offering starting today, 31st March and lasting until 6th April! Pampers Wonder Week is all about the sort of savings my Mum (and I expect ALL Mum’s love the most) it’s all about saving money by buying in bulk! Not only does it mean we make great savings but we also never run out -this is something I might like to note for myself as I used the last of our naopies tonight and DON’T have anymore! Guess I’d better visit www.pamperswonderweek.co.uk first thing in the morning then!
It’s super easy, you just visit the site, choose your preferred retailer from the available list, pck your product deal and then click through to the retailer’s site to make the purchase!
Another thrifty loving Mum (my Mum will be a fan I’m sure) is bargain-loving-blogger Miss Thrifty (aka Karyn Fleeting), who’s passionate about simple ways to save pounds; she’s shared her top tips on ways to save money and find discounts with Pampers and it’s certainly worth a look.
Miss Thrify’s Top Tips:
- Always compare costs and check the price per unit.
In the UK, a product’s price label on the supermarket shelf will also specify the price per unit: if you are considering a bulk purchase of a product, then check this price-per-unit, compare it and make a judgement call as to whether you will be saving money in the long-term.
- “Stack” coupons and offers for additional savings.
To “stack” is to put multiple coupons towards the purchase of a single item. You can collect coupons from magazines and websites. If the supermarket with the best bulk-buy offers isn’t your closest, remember that you can obtain the savings anyway, if you take advantage of price match schemes.
- If you are buying baby products, think long-term.
Think ahead if you are bulk-buying baby items such as clothes and nappies – my little one has already outgrown his 0-3 month outfits, Babies grow so quickly, so it’s sensible to buy a size up, or mix and match your bulk buy products. Disposable baby wipes are something you’ll be buying for years, so your bulk buy will definitely get used!
- Be wary of bulk-buying a product or brand you haven’t bought previously.
Fortunately, many of the baby brands are available to try at no cost or low cost: Pampers, for example, will send you free samples (www.pampers.co.uk).
- Remember to adjust your household budget.
For those new to bulk-buying, here is a neat idea from an American money-saving blog, which is applicable to UK shoppers: raise your grocery budget, temporarily, by 25% – “take advantage of big sales when you see them…eventually, you won’t need that extra 25%” (The Simple Dollar)
All tips my Mum would be very much endorsing herself. I think if she had to add one thing to Miss Thrifty’s list it would be to make sure you look at whether the price per unit is marked before or after the ‘saving’ a supermarket has added and also to make sure you’re comparing Kg to Kg or Lb to Lb and not one of each!
I think the main reason Pampers Wonder Week is so exciting and the thing us Mum’s will love the most is because we know we’re buying quality for a brilliant bargain. We get to sleep easy because we still have some money in the pot for something fun and the little ones get to sleep well wearing reliable nappies that stay dry all night! 12 hours of golden sleep… What’s better than that?!
Pampers Wonder Week will see amazing offers on the full Pampers range including New Baby, Premium Protection, Baby-Dry nappies Baby-Dry Pants and Pampers Sensitive Wipes; so your little one will have all they need to sleep through the night and wake up for a day of boundless play, every day!
Sounds pretty wonderful for Wonder Week doesn’t it… Now, I’m off to buy nappies!
