I don’t bake. I mean I do, but it very rarely comes out of the oven resembling something you would want to eat. Still, yesterday we decided we’d have a lazy day at home and for some entertainment we would make some brownies!
I’ve made brownies before but they weren’t very nice and I didn’t have high hopes for these but… As it happens and in some kind of fluke, they came out of the oven just as they should be!
They are gooey, moist, sweet with a touch of saltines and yuuuum! Florence got to stir and add ingredients which kept her entertained and now we have something delicious to eat!
Our perfect chocolate brownies!
Ingredients:
4oz Lightly salted butter cut into pieces plus extra for greasing
100g Plain chocolate roughly chopped
2 Eggs
175g Light muscovado sugar
2 tsp Vanilla extract
2 oz Plain flour
1oz Cocoa powder
1 1/2oz Pecan nuts
Method:
Melt the butter and chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a simmering pan of water then leave to cool slightly.
Mix the eggs, sugar and vanilla in a bowl and beat with an electric whisk until frothy.
Stir the egg mixture into the chocolate and butter until combined.
sift the flour and cocoa powder into the bowl and scatter in the nuts. Stir gently until together then turn the mixture into a greased tin and level the surface.
Bake in a preheated oven for 20 minutes at 200c.
Leave in the tin for ten minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool and cutting into cubes.
These brownies were super duper easy and very effectively hit the chocolate spot just where we needed! If I can bake them then believe me, anyone can! I once made a cake which was black in the middle and could be used as a weapon so I truly know what I’m talking about when it comes to ineptitude in the baking stakes!
Florence had great fun helping to make these and quite a bit of fun licking the left over chocolate from the bowl after we melted it with the butter!
