At a recent launch party held by veterans of the pram world, Silver Cross, Jimmy was given a teddy bear as a gift to take home. The bear came from the Silver Cross Classic Gift collection and in celebration of all things British is named ‘George Classic British Bear‘. He wears a Union Jack handkerchief in the pocket of his tailored waistcoat which also has Union Jack embroidered buttons and is totally delightful with his jointed limbs and sweet face . Well Jimmy just loved having a present to tear open and thought the beautiful gift box was great fun to climb inside to tear up the tissue paper! I just knew when we got home that Florence, who had been at nursery during the event, would love him too – mainly because of his Union Jack qualities!
You see, Florence is a bit of a fan of the old Union Jack. Last summer, with the Queen’s Jubilee and then the Olympics, she got completely taken by ‘Jubylimpic fever’ and for some reason just LOVES the Union Jack – which she calls a ‘Jubilee’! If ever we see one now we all shout ‘JUBILEE’ and Florence is always crossing her knife and fork or straws, anything really and says she’s made a ‘Jubilee’. It’s very sweet! So when she came home from school and saw Jimmy’s new bear she kind of took him over really…
Upon hearing how much Florence loves the Union Jack and how taken with ‘George Bear’ she is, the lovely people at Silver Cross thought it would be nice to send her her very own Union Jack Bear which was so thoughtful of them! They sent her the more girlie version of ‘George’, ‘Elizabeth Classic British Bear‘ who comes wearing a pretty floral pink dress with an applique Union Jack (Jubilee) pinny. The dress and pinny are both finished with a trim of Broderie Anglaise and she wears a bow in the same material of the dress over one ear… She’s a beautiful friend for ‘George Bear’ and Florence couldn’t believe her luck when she was given the box one night last week!
‘Elizabeth Bear’ was immediately made a little bed to sleep in and for a short time I think ‘George Bear’ was all but forgotten for Florence! She may be a fan of the Union Jack/Jubilee flag but shes also rather fond of pink so ‘Elizabeth Bear’ is JUST up her street!
By morning though and I think it was clear that Jimmy wasn’t about to be handed ‘George Bear’ back any time soon! Florence decided that both bears were now to be firmly in her toy circle and has been enjoying playing with both ever since! Don’t worry, Jimmy does get a look in sometimes and we’ve kept the lovely sturdy boxes to keep craft stuff in so he’ll get to sit in them and rip up more tissue paper which he LOVES!
So, they’re great to play with and not just look at which is fab. I’ve wanted to get proper, jointed, old-fashioned bears for them for some time but have wondered if perhaps they’re more an item to look at rather than handle which is no fun. These ones are the complete package because they look the part but are also very durable too. As you can see in the television picture, the limbs on ours have been moved and pulled about lots but they’re very well made so quite withstanding of little hands play and they’ve coped with being sucked by Jimmy too!
Florence is rather keen on the fact that the clothes come on and off very easily. They do up with Velcro, even the pinny, so she can remove the clothes and re-dress them by herself which is great. We’re very pleased with our lovely old-fashioned bears so thank you to Silver Cross for gifting them to us – what a treat. They do make a lovely present!
I have not been paid to write this post but I was sent the two bears as gifts from Silver Cross.
