We’ve been to SKATE at Somerset House for the last four years and every year we look forward to it signalling the start of our Christmas activities! It is quite simply the most beautiful setting and for the children, with their gorgeous little penguins to hold onto, it is the absolute best skating experience we have ever tried!
Yesterday we went to the preview session and loved it so much we had not one but two goes on the ice! We enjoyed hot chocolate and pastries in Tom’s Skate lounge and with Aunty Helen (my cousin) and her beau Luke (an ex semi pro ice hockey player) we had the most fab morning getting festive!
Florence has been skating at Somerset House since she was just under two year’s old and this year with her brother on the rink too, she became so confident that she actually skated round the big rink on her own without the aid of a penguin and she loved it! Having Luke and his skills teaching us was very helpful! Jimmy thought it was utterly brilliant and in his typical 2 year old self he wanted to do it on his own too – he almost managed it as well!
Look how much fun we all had!
I LOVED it so much and definitely want to go back again before it closes on 11th January 2015! The tree is pretty awesome as well and is decorated by Fortnum & Mason. THIS is the place to be for Christmas ice skating whether you’re young and want to have fun or a class or a bit older and fancy a club night on the ice. a truly magical experience as always!
I’ve actually got to just say that the Penguins are being replaced by Polar Bears so by the time you skate it will actually be Polar Bear Club on the children’s ice. They will do exactly the same as the penguins but instead will look like this!
We went to a preview skate at Somerset House. The rink is open from 11th November 2014 – 11th January 2015. lease see http://www.somersethouse.org.uk/ice-rink to book tickets.
