I stopped going swimming for a bit last winter due to feeling cold but I’m determined not to this year because I don’t want Florence to lose the confidence she gained on holiday and I want Jimmy to feel natural in the water. Looking at my friend’s children who have kept their swimming regular since they were babies and I can definitely see that they are more comfortable in the water than Florence was until our holiday; being a strong swimmer myself I think it’s an important skill so I want my children to have it too. It can be an expensive hobby though and with disposable swim nappies raking the cost up I’m all for anything to make it cheaper. When Florence was little we had a Happy Nappy by Splash About who make swim gear for children and even though it can be worn with a disposable swim nappy if desired it can also be worn without so we opted for without in a bid not to buy the expensive and often not very good disposable swim nappies! I always found it great, especially as she has and always has had, very skinny legs. The design in such that it has a waist and leg cuffs to help aid leakages! As with any nappies actually Florence and Jimmy often have leaks from the legs because nappies just don’t fit them snuggly enough. He, although chunkier than her, also isn’t particularly chubby so the cuff is a brilliant idea for babies like mine.
I’d somehow forgotten about the one Florence had but I’m not sure I’d be able to take Jimmy out in it anyway as it is very pink but it lasted Florence for ages, well over a year and is still in perfectly good condition! The material feels similar to that of a wet suit but isn’t as thick or uncomfortable to put on and they come in loads of different patterns and colours! The blue one we now have for Jimmy has stars on it and is super cute! We have used these swim nappies in the sea and the pool, have washed Florence’s one many times and I found it lasted Florence size wise for a long time as well as it staying in good nick! They come in sizes from 0-24 months and in my opinion would be suitable even for the most tiny of babies. This doesn’t mean I think they would be uncomfortable for a chubbier baby because I really don’t! I think that because the material is stretchy and soft it would accommodate a larger baby too. In fact, we used Florence’s one way past the age it was intended for because it stretched and was still comfortable for her! At under a tenner what a bargain!
