Tips on Upgrading Your Home on a Budget

After you have done your home up, you may think that it will last forever. The truth is that over time even the best spec homes can start to lose their charm. When you are low on funds, you may wonder how you can make your home more appealing again. New bathrooms and kitchens are not cheap, but just because these are a little out of your price range at the moment does not mean you cannot upgrade your home. All you need is to be a little more creative. To help you out, here are a few ways you can upgrade your home on a budget.

Decluttering

It happens to almost every homeowner – they become surrounded by clutter. Some houses are obviously worse than others, but clutter can start taking over your home if you are not careful to stay on top of it. Clutter can have a lot of negative effects. First, it looks bad and brings down the overall feel of your home. It can cause stress and anxiety; it can have the effect of keeping you stuck in the past by constantly reminding you of it. It can affect your health too by contaminating the air. So, if you want to upgrade the look and feel of your home, start with decluttering and making more space. You may even be able to make a bit of money this way. Some of the clutter you would have accumulated could be sold on. It makes sense to put things on the buy and sell marketplace online. What is the worse that can happen? The money you make could be put toward something for the house.

Fixtures

Instead of forking out for a whole new bathroom and kitchen, you can make some changes on a budget that can change the overall feel. These include changes to the taps and handles; try changing the door handles too. You could put up a new splashback in the kitchen. How about putting up a few floating shelves and displaying some of your best china? You could try getting a few battery-powered led lights to give a better lighting effect. You can also change the curtains to change the look and feel. Putting up some pictures is a great thing to do too. These can be used to hide pipes or other eyesores.

Reupholstering

Instead of getting brand-new sofas and armchairs, you can add a little newness and personality by reupholstering them for a fraction of the price. You can also make something that is entirely unique or something that is great for the kids. All you need is some great fabric like these fabric design treasures and a little creative flair. Consider also reupholstering other pieces of furniture too. You can always and done wooden furniture like wardrobes and revarnishing or wood staining; you can paint them an entirely new colour if you like. How about painting a pattern on them? The world is your oyster. Remember that furniture can really make or break the feel of a room. So, experiment and go for it.

Freshen the Look with New Paint

Paint is a great and inexpensive way to upgrade the look and feel of pretty much any room. Paint can also be used on doors, furniture and even the floors. When it comes to painting, remember that the colour you choose can create a mood for the room. Colours convey moods and can make you feel a certain way. So, consider how you want the room to make you feel before you paint it. Light colours can also make a room appear larger, while darker ones can enclose the space and even make it feel cosier if that’s the feel you are after. If you paint the skirting the same colour as the floor, you can make the space feel larger, too, by fooling the observer into thinking that there is more floor space.

Use the Mould Killer

In the kitchen and bathroom, mould can make all the grouting between tiles look black and unattractive. It is a great way to make someone turn their nose up. All it takes is a little elbow grease and some mould killer. So invest in a good mould killer and start scrubbing off all that mould. Sometimes it’s the edges of the bath and sinks that look awful due to mould covering the sealant. Maybe it is time to pull off all the old sealant and apply a fresh layer. This can drastically improve the look of the kitchen and bathroom if mould is an issue for you. If the mould has completely taken over, then professional mold testing in Monterey, CA (or services closer to you) can help. Mould is not only unsightly but can also have a detrimental impact on your health. So when it gets out of control, it’s worth contacting professionals who will be able to help you out before the issue becomes a risk to you and your family.

New flooring

While new flooring might not scream budget busting it is an investment piece that when you choose right can last a lifetime. So many of my friends have ripped up old carpets and laminate in the hope to find something special underneath and while some have, the majority have had to invest. Wow though, what a statement it is to choose Parquet Flooring which will take your house through whatever fashions and trends come in new decades and always, always be as desirable as the day you put it in. Long term budget busting but also, long term gorgeous floors!

Collaboration.
