As you may know, we are big fans of ELC craft kits in our house, we can’t get enough of them! It’s great to make your own projects but sometimes there isn’t enough time or energy and they’re fabulous if you just want an afternoon of fun without any hassle. Everything you need for a project comes inside the kits and they’re suitable for a big range of ages.

Florence does like to bespoke hers too so you don’t have to stick to the picture guides if you don’t want to and can easily let your imagination run wild! Florence did some fab Christmas craft boxes from the Early Learning Centre and now it’s nearly Easter we thought we’d do some topical to this time of the year too!

Florence always looks forward to craft sessions!

Florence has never sewn before but because we made a puppet theatre recently (out of an old box and some tissue paper) she was really interested in making these Easter Puppets (which are currently on offer in store at half price for just £2.50) to use in it. The box says you don’t need any glue and all the sticking parts come with sticky on them so this one doesn’t even make a mess – brilliant!

I thought Florence would need a great deal of help but in actual fact she needed a lot less than anticipated and was really rather good. For this one she did want to stick to the pattern and the instructions on the side of the box are very easy to follow and visual so she understood them. She told me we needed scissors and I asked her how she knew that so she pointed to the picture on the box showing the equipment we would need, just those and our hands!

I cut the wool to length and tied a knot in the bottom for her then I showed her what to do. She threaded the needle herself and quickly got the hang of what sewing is all about. She did need help here and there but she is only three after all. Recommended for 3-8 year olds it’s a lovely thing to make with littler ones and it’s something really satisfying as an end result which would please an older one doing it on their own.

Sewing for the first time was really fun and because the pre-cut holes are big, if you get in a muddle it’s easy to rectify!

Florence did need a bit of help here and there but she really enjoyed it and is learning new skills!

The sticking part is more familiar to Florence and she needed no help! Simply peel off the back of each item for the eyes and other features then stick in place!

Once the chick was finished she was very keen to make the rabbit too! It’s great that there are two in a pack!

The kits are such a bargain with all that money off  and we’ve also got the sew your own Easter egg warmers kit that we’re going to make as presents and give to the Grandma’s and a make your own Easter bag kit too! They’re both sewing ones and really similar so we can keep practicing our sewing! Great afternoon fun for a wet dreary day when you can’t go outside!

The Easter craft kits, as with all the craft kits we’ve used from ELC, are really good quality, good value for money (excellent when on an offer like at the moment) and encourage new skills when being used. Florence had to really concentrate threading the needle and sewing for the first time. To start with she said she couldn’t do it but soon was loving it! The holes are pre-cut and the stitches are big so entirely managebale for a first sewing project. It’s worth noting that there are two puppets in the box and each one comes inside a little bag with everything you need for each one including plastic needles. Two children could use just the one kit and make one puppet each. We had a fab time making the puppets and now we have some new characters for the plays we put on in our puppet theatre!
