Last week I wrote about our planting of tomato seeds which Heinz sent us for their challenge. Everyone can apply to get some FREE seeds from their Facebook page and join in with the challenge too! Share your pictures for the Greenhouse Photo Gallery, Attend the Tomato School, play the Tomato Game and read all about how Heinz grow theirs, as well as getting some tips and tricks for growing yours!

Anyway, it’s only been a week since we planted ours but… We have a shoot!

Heinz 1

The first little shoot coming through!

I had been a little worried after I dropped them on our trip home to London from my Mum’s in Norwich… I had the pot in a bag and somehow it got knocked over in the car but I scooped everything back into the pot and hoped for the best – it seems no harm was done! I’m so pleased they’ve grown so quickly, it’s a real bonus when you have small children as a week is a very long time to them!

Florence is absolutely thrilled and we can’t wait to see what happens next!!

The Heinz pot is currently residing at our house next to our other plant, a sunflower which was a present to Florence from one of her little friends, and the other tomato pot we planted we left at my Mum’s. She says there is a shoot her end too!! I asked my gardener keen Mum when we would have to relocate them to the garden and she said not for ages yet! Apparently we will have to move them into a bigger pot indoors first but again, not for a while yet! I’ll keep you updated as and when we have tomato news!

Heinz 2

Our tomato plant in it’s current home by our kitchen window and next to our Sunflower plant!

I was not paid to write this post but I have been offered an incentive to enter the ‘Heinz Grown Your Own Initiative’. The incentive is a hamper of goodies if I keep updating you on our own growing journey. I have to say though, for this challenge, there is no incentive needed as we are more than happy to grow our own tomatoes and blog about it, but it’s jolly nice of them so we thought we’d let you know!
