I think I can win the prize for the longest anyone has ever used a baby bath! In fact, I might go as far as to say that it was our absolute best buy of all time ever because we used it from when Florence was a couple of weeks old and Jonny has only just, in the past couple of weeks, put it away in the loft. We could of course keep using it with Jimmy, we could keep using it with Florence on her own in fact, they’re both little enough to still fit in. But, together, as they tend to bathe, it’s just that titch too small now, so we made the transition a couple of weeks ago.
There’s just one problem with this new arrangement and that’s that Jimmy likes to stand up and move about. I’m always so worried he’s going to slip over and hurt himself. I worry that Florence will do the same too when she gets up to get out of the way of her baby brother so that she can play with her water baby dolly on her own up one end. In the small bath they didn’t really stand up because there wasn’t the space but the big bath has opened up a whole new world of play opportunities and they love the freedom! To eliminate the worry I decided a bath mat would be the solution. You know, the sort your Grandma used to have in the shower only I thought a bright and colourful one for the children would be better.
Thought I may as well try and sort out some other bath time problems while we were at it:
- Florence has the screaming abdabs every time we wash her hair because she doesn’t like the shampoo running in her eyes when it’s washed out. We roll up a flannel for her eyes but she still complains.
- Our bath is very deep and has an extremely hard floor. Now that they both like to stay in for a while it’s a long time spent on your knees if you’re supervising. It’s not so bad when you’re just watching but when you have to lean over to wash/brush teeth (we do them in the bath) it can be quite painful!
- With two children the mass of bath toy over spill has gone crazy and we haven’t any more suitable space to keep them so they end up lolling on the side of the bath! It doesn’t make for a tranquil Mummy soak… (Alright, that may not happen anyway but a gal can hope)!
We were sent some bath time accessory products to try from Fisher Price and they might just have solved our bath time problems!
The Bathtime Corner Cubby has 4 suckers on it which attach it to the walls where the bath or shower is. We’ve tried corner cubby type products before and the suckers haven’t worked. This one has four large ones which seem to work pretty well. I filled it up with toys and it has stayed put since! It has a mesh basket which lets excess water drain away which is perfect! We didn’t have anymore surfaces to put toy baskets on so this is a fab solution!
The Temperature Change Bath mat is great because it’s really big. We have a huge bath, I don’t know why because the majority of our flat is small. The person who did the conversion was a bit potty so installing an over sized bath was completely in keeping with his logic I suppose. We’ve put the mat in the middle of our bath and it takes up a good two thirds of it. fab for just helping those little feet be a bit steadier and it has a brilliant feature in the fin on the whale which alerts you if the water is too hot in bright red writing. It says on the packaging that it’s easy to clean and it is. I give it a wipe down on the sucker side after bath time and roll it up for the next time.
The shampoo shield is such a great idea. It fits over the baby/toddlers head like a cap and then you just rinse away. It’s made of foam and I didn’t think it would fit on Florence’s head at first but it did and after an initial water pour with a little apprehension from Florence she soon realised that it would protect her eyes from the shampoo. This is a SUPERB PRODUCT, why didn’t we get one sooner?
As for the Bath time Kneeling Pad, well it’s very handy indeed. A pad to protect your knees while you lean over the bath to wash hair etc. It’s quite thick and padded as well as being brightly coloured and has the same matching under water cartoons as the rest of the bath time accessories. Storing it, as you can see in my first picture above, it’s just flat against the wall. We keep it where the big and bulky baby bath used to be so hardly notice it. Well worth it!
All the products with the exception of the Shampoo Shield (suitable from 6 months) are suitable from birth.
All the Fisher Price bath products can be bought at Argos.
I have not been paid to write this post but I was sent the Fisher Price Bathtime Accessories for the purpose of review.
