A Circus Carol – Norwich Playhouse!
A Circus Carol is playing at Norwich Playhouse from December the 11th to the 21st and is quite unlike any other Christmas show you will come across. The perfect alternative for older kids and teenagers as a change from traditional panto and a brilliant evening of circus fun!
Aimed at ages 10+ this is a show not for the faint hearted as circus acts perform hold your breath moves while telling the famous story of Scrooge and his ghosts of Christmas past, present and future!
The Lost in Translation Circus is a local troop who perform traditional circus skills with a contemporary, theatrical approach and what they achieve is really, very unique. Seen to be believed I think is what they say and this one is worth believing in.
We went to opening night where we gasped and awed at the stunts, kept up with the story line and enjoyed every second. It’s very worth seeing something this out of the ordinary, surprising and thrilling all at the same time as we have come away still talking about it though we went in completely in the dark as to how it would work. As a sophisticated performance that older ones will be searching for over the festive period this is really up there and I am so glad that I’ve seen it! It sort of leaves you in a little bit of wonder, which I love!
If I had a critique I’d say the music man (who was absolutely brilliant) to the side of the stage creating the ambiance with his overlayed sound system and instruments is perfectly placed to be the only voice aside from Scrooge himself. The actor playing Scrooge is accomplished in his craft with his delivery perfectly atmospheric and I think some of the other performers might benefit from a silent performance for more depth. The actors talking when the music man had already made their sounds for them seemed a little overkill at times and took away slightly from an otherwise lovely performance.
The Lost in Translation Circus, a co production with the Norwich Theatre Royal and Norwich Playhouse, will be performing A Circus Carol from the 11th to the 21st of December, times vary. Running time is £70 and tickets cost £15/Mat £12 / £9.50 concs+preview/£8.50 schools (+ £1.80 per transaction when tickets are posted)
