A Right Royal Christmas With Norwich Theatre Royal – Panto In A Pickle, A Circus Carol And She Go Does It Under The Christmas Tree… With Friends!

So Panto season is upon us but in the very strange and unusual times of COVID19 of course. One of the biggest hit industries throughout the pandemic has unfortunately been one so close to my heart and with live performances being cancelled as well as production on television and film work there are actors and theatres and production companies going out of business faster than the speed of light. It’s been a terrible time for all in the industry and of course my lovely Theatre Royal Norwich is no exception when it comes to the devastating effects the virus has led. We do have to follow guidelines and keep everyone safe but at the same time, if you can, do try and support your local theatre groups because if you don’t now then they won’t be able to be there for you later and certainly at Theatre Royal Norwich they are making great plans for the future so it’s now you need to offer your support. All while getting to enjoy (safely) some rather fantastic shows as ever!

Traditionally panto has kept theatres afloat for the following year so bear that in mind when planning your festive treats this year and take a look at the amazing trio of offerings all rotating with dates that Theatre Royal Norwich is gifting us this Christmas!

There’s something for everyone and the best bit is that ticket prices are really low and you have their word that should anything change and the performances become unable to be played you will 100% have your money back in either an exchange or refund if the performance cannot be rescheduled for you.

Phew.. So that’s the money info and a little personal plea from me to you to not rule out a theatre trip this season and now onto what you can enjoy at Theatre Royal Norwich!

In the trip of rotating festive shows on from the 16th to the 24th of December 2020 we have:

PANTO IN A PICKLE!

Panto In A Pickle! Is recommended for children aged 3+ and follows the traditional panto setting with a bit of a difference!

There has been a terrible mess-up in Panto-land. What is Cinderella doing with those magic beans? Why did Captain Hook stop Snow White going to the ball? How did Aladdin end up in an enchanted sleep? This really is Panto in a Pickle – quite fitting for a 2020 offering don’t you think?!

Putting all our favourite characters back where they belong will be quite a quest. But don’t worry we have our very own trusty panto super-heroes and Norfolk favourite dame Richard Gauntlett will be there to lend a hand and add to the mayhem!

A magical festive treat for all ages is not to be missed and with ticket prices set at £50 for a family of four with the running time 60 minutes (no interval) I’d say it’s perfect for little ones too – we’ll be there, will you?!

A CIRCUS CAROL

A Circus Carol returns for 2020 hello after their sell out 2019 season on the stage at sister theatre, Norwich Playhouse. I saw it last year and it was ambient circus fun with a storyline we all know and love and I would say while absolutely suitable for older children perhaps not for smalls as it does have a rather dark edge to it.

Lost In Translation Circus perform the classic Dickens tale as you’ve never seen it before combining acrobatics and truly amazing trickery with ghosts of Christmas past, present and future. It is a marvellously intricate re-imagining of the story which captures all the thrills and spills of the original story with even more spectacle.

It is recommended for children aged 10+, a family ticket for four people costs £65 and the show runs for 70 minutes with no interval.

SHE GO DOES IT UNDER THE CHIRSTMAS TREE… WITH FRIENDS

She Go Does It Under The Christmas Tree… With Friends is the more adult choice aimed at anyone over the age of 16. She Go says:

I am Norwich’s own piece of WAP (Working At Poundland). Christmas in Norfolk is a time where we sing carols like: ‘Winterton Wonderland’ and ‘O Come, All Ye Fakenham’ and where we remember that special little baby that was born over 2000 years ago: Stewart White.

If you like that kind of thing, join me at the (socially distanced) Theatre Royal this Christmas, where I’ll look back on 2020 and ask: ‘Wass bin goon on?’. I’ll be joined by friends old and new and there’ll be songs, sketches and more.
