Ok, I’m going to admit it, I’m not very cool and I get just a little bit start struck when I see all the children’s TV stars out and about milling with the crowds at Lollibop! I even got a bit like a silly school girl when we saw Rastamouse in 2011 but both years that we’ve been we’ve seen Alex Winters from CBeebies, and we in the Rock ‘n’ Roller Baby household were positively giddy!
Ah, he just looks as nice as he does on the TV and both years, even though he was enjoying the day with his own young family, we saw him signing autographs and smiling and dancing with everyone else! For the children to see him in the flesh it’s total awe struck on their faces! My children think our local SureStart lady lives in the library and can’t understand that she has another home so imagine what it must be like to be that little and see someone from their television programmes in real life – they just can’t believe it!
How exciting then that we the Lollibop 2013 official bloggers got to give Alex a mini interview ahead of this years event where he once again will be working and enjoying the day with his family! Knowing our penchant for celeb action, see if you can guess which question was ours!
Hi Alex, we just wondered whether you feel a bit like a rock star as you must get a Beatles like reaction from little ones everywhere you go? If you could be a rock star from any era who would it be?
Hehehe, I like this question because it is funny seeing the reaction of children (and mums!) (and dads!!!!) I meet out and about. It is a lovely feeling to see any child excited and happy because they ‘know’ me from the Cbeebies house. It is genuinely great to think I might play a tiny tiny part in making them happy. As for which Rock Star I’d be, that really is a tough question as I’m a frustrated rock star. My wife and children are often embarrassed by my dancing, strutting and singing around the house. I think I’d have to say……aaarrrggghhh!! This is really tough!!…ummmm….Ok, modern day would be James Dean Bradfield from the Manic Street Preachers and past era would be Jimi Hendrix. Or Jimmy Page. No, McCartney. NEXT question!!!
What are you most looking forward to about LolliBop?
As the returning compere of the Lollibop Main Stage, I cannot wait to get on there and entertain the crowds. The past two years have been so much fun and have made me laugh so much!! This year I’ll be bringing new games, jokes, dances and daft fun so be prepared for more fun than ever!
What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid?
Ooooh, tough question that as I remember being in love with so many. Here goes… Mr Ben, Button Moon, Jamie & The Magic Torch and Blue Peter. There are so many others I could mention too. PLAYSCHOOL of course!
You’re a dad – and you bring your kids to Lolli – what’s your top tip?
My children LOVE coming to Lollibop. They ask me and their mum “How long is it until Lollibop” for 11 months of the year!!! My advice? Prepare to let your hair down. If you’ve got any! Join in and have fun, you won’t regret it and your children will love you forever!
