All In Favour Of A New Way Of Working From Home, Stand Up!
Just after I’d had Raffie I visited my GP who was stood up working in his office at a desk high enough for him to do so. It felt very new age and I stood back a little, with my new-born, wondering if we were in the right place. “Don’t mind me” he said, “I have a bit of a bad back so can’t sit down for too long, this thing has changed my working life!” And he conducted our appointment all while standing. It had everything he needed on it just like a regular desk only it could move up and down at different heights to accommodate him standing up rather than being plonked in a seat. He also told me he likes to keep moving while he worked so that he got a little exercise in at the same time. How revolutionary I thought as it occurred to me this sort of thing would change the face of office working for forever more!
Four years on and a standing desk is not so much of an unusual sight anymore; more and more people are becoming aware of the benefits to health by standing rather than sitting as they work and there are some fabulous desks out there, even ones which don’t just allow exercise as my GP incorporated into his working while standing life, but ones which facilitate it by being attached to exercise bikes. I mean how good is that?!

The shift towards flexible home working has introduced innovative ways to stay active while remaining productive. Standing desks, for example, have transformed traditional office setups, allowing professionals to work comfortably while reducing strain. As remote work continues to evolve, opportunities are expanding globally, including Bulgarian speaking remote roles that offer flexibility and accessibility for multilingual professionals.
So why stand when you could be sitting?!
Standing lowers the risks of putting on weight. It’s said that by standing, and being less stagnant of movement, you are likely to burn an extra 1000 calories per day. Now this is reason enough for me I have to say but there’s more…
How about a mood lifter?
By standing your mood is automatically picked up as endorphins are on the go, your blood sugar levels are lower, metabolism faster and then, of course, just as my GP told me, it’s better for your back. We tend to sit hunched even when in the most well set chairs for looking after our spines but by standing, our bodies naturally stay straighter in that upright position. Aches and pains are lessened, smiles are more and we can have an extra afternoon treat to make up for the fact we haven’t just been sat down all day. I love it!
But sometimes I like to sit!
Of course, there are times when we do need to take a load off however and that’s where the option for both would be really handy, ait risers are what give options. With many to choose from, not to mention accessories to make the working day even easier, it couldn’t be simpler.

It’s the way upwards!
I myself am a writer, my work from home situation isn’t a new one as being freelance writing for various publications as well as my own this has always been the way I’ve worked. I work sat in a chair, on the floor, stood up at the kitchen sink with nowhere to put my lap-top… I don’t know why I haven’t considered one of these before now because it certainly feels the way forwards, or upwards rather, for me now! I mean my own Doctor recommends it and you can’t ask for more than that now can you?!
Have you tried working while standing up? A new desk is very definitely something to think about to make it work better and more easily that’s for sure!
Collaboration.
