Blossom, the magazine just for little girls, has launched an exciting new competition for all budding young authors!
In association with World Book Day the competition is to inspire all little writers to put pen to paper and create their very own story! The winner will have their work published in the magazine having been illustrated by the Blossom artist. On top of this the prize will include a visit to their school or nursery by the hugely successful Princess poppy author, Janey Louise Jones, a bundle of books for them and their school library from Random House and a special keepsake bound version of their story!
Janey Louise Jones, author of the Princess Poppy books, says: “It was always my dream as a little girl to be a writer, so I am really pleased to be involved with Blossom Magazine in their search for a young story-teller. I would loved to have had a story illustrated and published at such a young age and I’m sure the competition will be a source of inspiration for budding writers everywhere… dreams can come true!”

The entries should be a maximum of 500 words and feature the four Blossom Girls characters – Lily, Rose, Daisy and Violet – who appear in each issue of the magazine. The winning entry will be by judged by a panel of industry experts for its imagination and creativity.
The competition is open from 5th February to 8th March 2014, full details can be found in Blossom Magazine issue 10 (on sale 5th Feb) but it’s very easy… All your little one needs is a beginning, middle and end, there are full instructions and even a page to help you with boxes for each part of the story! Don’t worry if your little one can’t write yet because you can write it down for them as they tell it!
Andrea Turton, Blossom editor, says: “We’re hoping that little ones will be inspired to pick up a pencil and write an imaginative story that will entertain our readers! The story could take the Blossom Girls anywhere, doing anything – the possibilities are endless!”
We were invited to Blossom HQ for a bit of a party to launch this fabulous competition and saw the latest copy of the magazine with all the details about it! It sounds so much fun and just up Florence’s street! Florence is a massive fan of stories and loves to create her own! She’s always telling me the ones she’s made up and they’re brilliant, it uses so much imagination and creativity, I love that she enjoys doing this!
Florence and Jimmy also got to try out their illustrating skills with Blossom’s chief illustrator!
She’s also a massive fan of magazine’s in general and is often lured in the shops by the shiny free gifts on the front of them – the one on the front of this month’s Blossom is actually a rather good Fairy Princess to decorate. Magazines for children are quite pricey though so I’m always sure to only let her have the ones I think are really worth the money and Blossom is definitely one of them. We’ve had it a few times in the past and she’s always enjoyed reading it and doing the activities inside! There are stickers, activities, stories and competitions, this is a really thick magazine with lots of content! Totally worth it if you ask me!
