CARTOON NETWORK CALLS FOR YOUNG CLIMATE HEROES TO GET CREATIVE AND HELP SAVE THE PLANET!

This March, Cartoon Network Climate Champions, powered by Warner Bros. Discovery, is inviting all children in the UK to unleash their creativity and take part in an exciting competition designed to spark fresh, fun ideas for saving the planet. Whether it’s inventive ways to turn off the lights to engaging recycling games, the competition is searching for the most imaginative ways to help tackle climate change.

The winning entry will be transformed into something truly extraordinary, a giant sculpture made from recycled materials by sculptor Faith Bebbington, renowned for creating ambitious 3D art from waste materials. The sculpture will be unveiled at a high-profile event and take pride of place on a bespoke wooden Climate Bench at Springfield Park in Liverpool, creating a community space for reflection on our shared commitment to the planet.

Warner Bros. Discovery, VP Brands, Comms and Digital Content Strategy, Kids EMEA, Monika Oomen, says: “We believe that real climate change is achieved step by step. Every action, no matter how big or small, contributes to tackling climate change and creating the impact we need for our planet. Kids have the most brilliant imaginations and with this initiative we aim to empower young people through their creativity with simple, practical tools they can use in their everyday lives to reduce their environmental impact. The competition encourages children to take their first step and submit their coolest, most innovative idea for combating climate change.”

To help spark inspiration, the Cartoon Network Climate Champions app and website will provide children with ideas and resources from campaign partners. Additionally, students from St. Vincent’s School for Visually Impaired Children in Liverpool are actively contributing to the campaign and have shared their incredible insights into how we can all help tackle climate change.

Cartoon Network Climate Champions is a multi-award-winning campaign utilising Cartoon Network’s cherished brands, animation, and captivating storytelling to inspire and empower children aged 6 to 12 years old. The initiative encourages kids to undertake daily challenges, collectively contributing to addressing climate change. It was conceived in response to a 2021 study conducted across 13 countries, which underscored the planet’s health as a top concern among children in this age group. Informed by the findings of the study, Cartoon Network Climate Champions focuses on actions children are currently discussing or are eager to adopt regarding climate-related issues. It provides a platform for children to take collective action, emphasising small changes in their daily lives at home, school, and within their local communities to aid environmental preservation. The initiative celebrates children’s efforts, making environmental stewardship tangible and achievable for them.

Cartoon Network Climate Champions applies the findings of what climate-related actions kids are currently talking about or want to adopt and gives them the opportunity to take collective action to make difference. The not-for-profit initiative focuses on empowering and educating kids to make small changes to their everyday lives at home, at school and in local communities to help save the planet.  Challenges include “Make it Rain!”, encouraging kids to opt for showers over baths to conserve water; “Red Light Scavenger Hunt”, where children identify and discuss standby devices in their homes with their families; and “Bag Up Your Bags”, inspiring kids to craft reusable plastic bag holders, the campaign offers practical and easily achievable actions.

Cartoon Network further expands the Climate Champions initiative by integrating it into Cartoon Network Game On! through gamification on Roblox, helping to tackle climate related challenges in the Metaverse. Climate Champions has achieved over 2.5 million accepted challenges on the microsite and app. And an additional whopping 10.4 million challenges started on Roblox.
