Jimmy likes cars. And wheels. And structures which are imposing. He likes levers, cranes and buttons quite a bit too… One of his favourite toys in the world is his ‘gadage’ (his Fisher Price Garage which we reviewed here. I prefer the retro version but Jimmy thinks his modern garage is brilliant) and when I showed him the box of the Fisher Price City Skyway, the latest toddler toy we have been sent to review for him, his eyes positively lit up! They were saying ‘It’s like my ‘gadage’ but BETTER! And frankly, it is!
It’s easy to see why it would be appealing to him, it stands over 3 feet tall for starters and he is tiny next to it so it is a HUGE toy for him. On top of this is has whizzy rams and slides all round it much like the one small one on his garage which is such a hit and to boot it has levers, traffic lights and a swing as well as a petrol pump. Aimed at children aged 1 and a half to 5 this is perfect for his nearly two and a half years and before I’d even put it together he was playing. As fast as i could get another bit of ramp up and his cars were going down it! Brilliant!
Was it easy to put together? Yes. Essentially it was very easy and the instructions are very good (there is also an on-line tutorial although we didn’t use it) but it s fiddly and takes a bit of time with quite a few screws to be put in place. This was NOT easy with an impatient toddler champing at the bit to get it done so I would recommend building it with a glass of sherry after the children have gone to bed on Christmas Eve rather than on Christmas morning!
The best bits? Well, where shall we start? It’s fun, bright and offers challenges for changing the pathways using levers. It is big but it is also very slim so is quite easy to tuck away at the edge of a room. And we shall let our video do the rest of the talking here because we think it finishes this answer better than we can with words!
And the worst bits? Well, I do think it’s a shame that the cars for the City Skyway (two come in the box) are not the same size as the cars from the garage which are a little big for this particular rampway despite all being from the ‘Little People’ range.
Overall it’s a great toy, I thoroughly recommend it and I’m pretty sure Jimmy does too!
We were sent the Fisher Price City Skyway for the purpose of an honest review.
