We’ve been busy doing lots of Christmas crafts this past week and been having so much fun making cards and decorations!
One of the things we’ve been making are some rather special Christmas cards for the Grandparents – We are actually really rather proud of our creations – even if we do say so ourselves!! We bought a poster paint set which came with a brush from ELC (£4) and some cheap canvasses (you can often find them in the pound shops – they’re not brilliant quality but for something like this they’re ideal) then we set about making these super-duper cards!
We decided we wanted to make two cheeky little red-nosed reindeers and managed to get the whole family involved because Florence and Jimmy made the heads and antlers by doing poster paint hand and foot prints then Jonny and I did our thumb prints for the noses! Florence and I then used a pack of ELC Wiggly Eyes (£1) to finish the reindeer faces and hey presto, the paintings/special Christmas cards were ready for our message which we wrote in a black gel pen in the left hand corner! Well, everyone has been very impressed! They didn’t cost very much money to make, were really fun to do and they look smashing! (We liked them so much we even made one for ourselves)! Take a look!
We loved making our unique cards and the Grandparents seem to like our efforts too!
Our other Christmas craft effort came in a pack from ELC and was everything you need to make and decorate your own Christmas tree! (Even better is that all the Christmas craft is now half price so it only cost £2.50!) Florence is a big fan of a craft box and we’ve found that the ones from ELC are always excellent quality and extremely good value! This one is suitable from age 3 although little ones will need a bit of a hand in places. There’s a few things for decorating that need to be cut out using a template and gold cord which needs to be tied but once that’s done (by me for Florence as she’s too little for scissors) then they can be left to decorate until all the decorations are gone – and there are loads! Florence found it very easy to pop out the holes for the baubles to be tied and she even threaded through the holes herself. The Christmas tree was easy to put together and she managed most of it it all on her own before going wild with the glue, glitter glue, decorations (cut and tied by me – allow half an hour prep time if you have to do this bit for your children too), pom poms, sequins and giant star! All that came in the box – what a bargain!
The beauty of this one is that you just can’t go wrong, the decorations go exactly where your little one wants them to and they can ad-lib and deviate away from the picture as much as they like – you can never have a too glittery tree after all! I love the way Florence used the pom poms on the tree top star! She loved doing this one and spent a good hour and a half just sticking and gluing while I left her to it for the most part – money and (as you can see from the final creation) time well spent!
Ta Da!
I have bookmarked this page so I can have a go at making these for Christmas this year with my grandchildren.
