Dearest Jimmy – You Are Thirteen!

Dearest Jimmy,

You are thirteen – a teenager, wow! I am bowled over that 13 year’s have slipped by and you’re now a big strapping lad who plays rugby and cricket and absolutely throws his all in to every sporting endeavour always. Watching you on the rugby pitch, literally giving it your all despite being smaller than most of the other players, fills me with both pride and worry. It’s been a year since you had your accident and I still worry about you because, well, I’m your Mummy! But you bounced right back and began the year beautifully showing everyone how strong and resilient you are. You continued to grow and thrive in sport but also at school too. Looking at my to the minute pictures with you from this year and from last, side by side, and we can see you’ve literally shot up in 12 months!

I’m surprised we couldn’t actually SEE you growing! Still always my little Jims though, and you always will be. You and I are seriously similar and we sometimes clash because of it but I couldn’t love you more! I’m so proud of who you are, you’re great fun, a brilliant friend and you are beyond interesting. Your facts are sometimes so odd that we Google to see if they’re true and with the exception of “how sheep cross the road” you are usually, always right!

I love to see you laugh, I adore watching you love everything about school and most of all I’m just thrilled that you are prepared to come out of your comfort zone and give anything a go – your dancing in the school showcase was mega impressive!

For 13 you didn’t want much fanfare, a McDonald’s breakfast, followed by a day (we arrived late so got our picture to the minute you were born of course, and we recreated a classic) at school, a Chinese take-away for tea, followed by a chocolate explosion cake from Gram, and then a whole weekend of rugby tournament – which you won with fellow team members from school and Norwich rugby club! You camped on the Sunday night with your team and then we celebrated you again the next weekend so that you could go and do retro games in the city with your friend, go magnet fishing and have a sleepover with lots of gaming there too. I wonder if it’s coincidence that you’ve got into magnet fishing this past month and suddenly an unexploded bomb has been found from someone else doing the same thing – hoping we keep it to the few pennies you’ve found so far!

We love you Jimini-Billy-Bob, my beautiful baby boy who surprised us all 13 years ago by coming out, back to back, with him little fist up like superman!

Here’s your birthday best bits!
