Cricket/Grasshopper Costume – Home Made!

It’s coming up to Raffie’s “mini beast day” at school. So, in half term, he, Posie and I created a Cricket costume for him to wear. The brief is basically “come as a bug” and seeing as all my children have an insect for a middle name, we had to go with Raffie’s for Raffie Rocco Cricket!
We took an old Hello Fresh box and laid it out flay before drawing on the shape of the body with some distinctive cricket legs ar the bottom and little ones at the top. The bea k part of the sandwich style board we cut into wings with some sectios cut out to put a colourful bubble wrap envelope I had inside the spaces to show texture. We didn’t have enough to go in all the gaps so we added some other, clear, package protectors.

We also cut out a head band, two antenna, some strips to make texture on the tummy, and the last two legs to attach with split pins later in order that they could move. We did the same with the antenna and then we used some masking tape to stick everything together and painted it all green!

We had great fun creating the Cricket, which could also be a grasshopper, it was pretty easy and is also pretty impressive! We thought underneath we’d just go cammo trackie and then on the day add some face paints too! We’re pretty proud of this good job done!
