Geeta’s Spice And Stir Sauce – A Review!

This entry was posted in Uncategorized.

A couple of weeks ago we were all poorly with either a sickness bug (the children) or (proper) flu with a sickness bug and a chest infection (us)… It was horrible and we felt absolutely grim. At the tail end of it when we were feeling well enough to leave the house but still not great we came to Norfolk for a quick weekend to celebrate a friend’s engagement and unfortunately we managed to pass on some of our germs to my Mum. This has resulted in a half term where she is feeling very poorly indeed poor thing. We are staying with her without Jonny at the moment so it means I am having to do quite a bit on my own… Meals, play, bath, bed… Usually I would have my Mum or Jonny to help out and because I was poorly myself before this and I’m not 100% yet I feel absolutely exhausted. It’s definitely proving to be a cutting corners week I have to say!

When it comes to meal times the children are eating lots of pasta, fish fingers and sandwiches at lunch time… Nothing horrible but certainly nothing that  takes a lot of time and as I’ve been making the food for my Mum and I as well I’ve been doing the quickest, easiest thing possible. I was sent a Geeta’s Jalfrezi Spice and Stir Sauce to try so now seemed like the perfect time to use it!

The sauce.

Just chop the meat of your choice, fry it until brown, add the spice mix which is in a container on top of the jar and continue to cook for a few minutes before adding the sauce to simmer.

The process.

I boiled some plain rice to serve it with so it was very easy and very quick. But the proof’s in the pudding as they say so what was the end result like and how did it taste?

Geeta’s website says ‘Spice & Stir Sauces are cooking sauces at their most innovative. A revolution in Indian convenience food whereby exotic traditional ingredients are used in the sauce, with a difference.’ And the Jalfrezi sauce is billed as hot. I thought it was very tasty indeed and very authentic. I don’t choose Jalfrezi when having an Indian meal as they are too hot so perhaps this one isn’t as hot as one you might find in a restaurant but it does have a definite kick about it. The result is really quite unbelievable considering that it only took around 20 minutes and I would certainly use them again although for my tastes and for my Mum’s I think we’ll go for a milder more creamy curry next time.

I think the fact that it comes with a spice mix and isn’t just a sauce gives it a different depth to ordinary jars and we enjoyed the meal. I found that the sauce was not gloopy or thick and a little went a long way. I actually added some mushrooms, onions and peppers to mine just to see what it would taste like as a vegetarian dish and I was impressed with how well it went with the mushrooms. If I were to use this particular sauce again I would even miss the chicken out completely and use mainly mushrooms so it would be a super cheap meal too!

The meal.

I was not paid to write this post but was sent a complimentary jar of Geeta’s Spice and Stir Jalfrezi sauce to try for review purposes.
