A few weeks ago my Mum bought Florence a coat to keep at her house over the winter. My Mum often buys clothes and bits to keep at hers so that if we forget to bring stuff it doesn’t matter or just to help us with the packing. She’s really good like that and it’s always helped me out that I don’t have to pack masses of stuff! She doesn’t spend a fortune on things though and just picks up clothes in the sales usually. They don’t have to be perfect when they don’t get worn very much you see!
This coat she bought came from Aldi and cost a tenner! You’d think for a tenner it wouldn’t be terribly decent and probably not last all that long. Wrong actually! It’s a brilliant coat, much warmer and better made that the one she has here. In fact, I might swap them over! It’s so well insulated, such a good shape and it’s pink with reflective strips on the seams. Florence loves it and it’s easily worth double the price!
Aldi asked me if I’d like to review something from their Ski range and knowing how good Florence’s coat is I’d be barking to have turned them down. They’ve just brought out a ski range for the whole family, from babies to adults and all at Aldi prices with, of course, the Aldi quality that I have come to know very well these past few months! The range has everything from the latest gadgets, underlays and footwear to helmets, salopettes and snowsuits for the tiny ones! Proper ski wear mind, not just looking the part but stuff you can actually take on the slopes and use!
Well, we might not be about to go on a holiday to Aspen but we are about to have a very cold winter so ski wear works for me! Jimmy was sent a junior snow suit (9.99 from 12 months – 3 years) and we’ve been putting it to the test.
The navy blue snow suit arrived in its own little see through plastic bag with a zip and handles. My first impression was what a fab zip it has!
I’ve always bought snow suits for the children but most years the crotch has ripped because they’re just not well made or equipped to deal with children moving about. I had one for Florence from Sainsbury’s the year before last which ripped on the crotch within a couple of weeks and last year the material on Jimmy’s expensive one from John Lewis only lasted days. This snow suit from Aldi won’t have that problem because the zip goes right underneath the legs and under the crotch; I can see just by looking at the design that the flaws in my previous suits just can’t happen to this one because of where the seams are!
Poppers over the zip and fleece lining inside!
Another slight flaw to our previous snow suits has been the fact that the children unzip them themselves. Kind of defeats the object of a snowsuit if the zip is undone don’t you think? This one has a set of poppers which do up over the top which is super handy! Inside the suit it is fleece lined and the material is very thick. It looks super cosy!
Putting it on I noticed that it slipped over Jimmy’s clothes AND shoes very easily. I often find myself struggling to get his other suit on over his shoes and end up having to take them off which is irritating as we go in and out of play groups, drop Florence off at school, pick her up later… We basically take our coats on and off about 5 times a day! Going over shoes which are on is much handier than not – the elastic in the cuffs is very good! Might not sound very important but it makes a big difference to me. Jimmy’s suit is age 12-18 months and although is a little long it fits him very well. Extra length doesn’t matter so much and I have rolled up the sleeves and legs which makes no difference to how it works and doesn’t even get in the way of the attached mittens which are held on with poppers.
Cosy in his snow suit!
I simply have to mention the hood because despite it not having cords it can be tightened with, it just seems to stay up. The elastic in the top part of the hood is sewn in just the right place obviously! The material is also the sort that wipes clean easily so all in all it made a very good first impression before we really put it to the test!
We went on the school run and then to the park for a play. It’s one thing keeping a child cosy whilst sitting in the buggy but I wanted to know how it would work with him running around and playing in it!
Playing at the park was fine! He didn’t seem encumbered in the slightest which sometimes in a snow suit children can be!
Climbing and sliding were no problem in the suit!
Playing and getting down on hands and knees were a breeze too!
Even warm when being swung by a big sister (who isn’t sporting her own Aldi coat)!
I honestly don’t think you could get better value with a product so well made. Yet again I’m very impressed Aldi… At the moment it seems you can do no wrong and with items like this it’s very easy to see why!
Jimmy (with that fantastic hood) in his snow suit! He looks very cosy and warm!
I have not been paid for this post but I was sent the snow suit mentioned for the purpose of an honest review.
