Yesterday we kicked off the Easter holidays in style by finishing school at 2pm and promptly taking a trip to the Westfield shopping centre near us so that we could sit on Italian Vespas and eat ice cream, it’s just how we roll! When Jimmy and I rocked up to the school gates for the early pick up we had sun shine beaming down on us and it was saying CELEBRATE! How could we refuse… Ice cream was the perfect way to welcome the warmth and 18 full days away from school!
I’ve often walked past the Joe Delucci’s ice cream parlour at the shopping centre and the children have craned their necks looking back at the Vespa style seats hoping for a treat but I’ve always hurried along thinking it probably very expensive and watching the queue which makes me feel like no way never when it’s back as far as the eye can see. Sure it’s a sign of somewhere being really good when loads of people are after it but I hate queueing for anything and can never be bothered… I can honestly say however, that from our very first experience yesterday, we will brave that fast moving queue again and again for their Italian gelato (in many flavours) is simply DELICIOUS!
When we got to the front of the queue, which even though huge only took about 5 minutes, we were literally spoiled for choice and took ages making our decision meaning we lost a space on the Vespa seats but the guy assured me they become free very quickly (which they did), so we took a while longer and perused the amazing choice over and over again. What to go for is a really difficult decision because they all look so fabulous and just like when on holiday the colours looked natural and so inviting. Mango, strawberry, chocolate (both dark and milk as well as lots of other flavours with it combined), pistachio (my personal favourite), raspberry, cheesecakes… The list goes on for ages and from the fruity to the creamy they all looked GOOD!
At the moment, for Easter, they even have a Cadbury’s Creme Egg Gelato as a special flavour! With 20% off it’s pretty tempting but because we’re not massive Creme Egg fans and with so much else on offer we simply couldn’t resist one of the other temptations. You either love or hate those little eggs don’t you and I often have massive pretend arguments with my pal Ellie about them. She lives in New York where they don’t sell them and hankers after them – if she saw this gelato I reckon she’d be on the first plane home – that reminds me, I must post her a few eggs before they sell out after Easter (I don’t think Gelato would do well on the journey or I’d send her that)!
Anyway, with our choices made we moved on to what type of cone we wanted (or pot) and what toppings we were going to have. Blimey, we were there half the afternoon deciding but I think we eventually made the right decisions!
I went for my fave pistachio and creme caramel, Florence had raspberry and dark chocolate and Jimmy did strawberry and strawberry cheesecake. Yes we had two scoops… We are greedy and frankly we could have had FOUR!
The Vespas became free pretty quickly (just as we were told) and we had such fun sitting on them watching the world go by while we enjoyed our gelato. We resorted to pots for the children after a while as two scoops really was a bit decadent but don’t worry, all ice cream was consumed in the end! We loved it and the best bit about the whole trip is that I found out Joe Delucci’s is not expensive AT ALL! Our massive two scoopers are under £4 and a single scoop (which is also huge) is £2.50. Yes, this little treat is something we shall revisit for sure.
The ice cream tastes like proper ice cream, nothing is synthetic and the flavours are just so fresh. I made sure by testing the children’s as well as my own. This was purely for research purposes you understand…
Joe Delucci’s make award winning gelato and having tasted it I can see why it’s so loved. It is the foodies gelato, the real stuff and it is NOT to be missed. Just like I mentioned my pal hankering after her Cadbury’s Creme Eggs because they don’t do proper chocolate in the States, I’m not sure many people do proper ice cream… There’s no substitute for the real thing is there… So, it’s bye bye Ben and Jerrie’s for us I’m afraid, we love it but it’s not a patch on this stuff and oh! Did I mention, they sell it in the supermarket so you can enjoy it at home too! WONDERFUL news! Gel-At-Oh oh oh yes please!
We worked with Joe Delucci’s for this post and all opinions are entirely honest.
