Kelly Loves – Sushi!

Kelly Loves – Sushi!

I made sushi once before but it was so long ago I seem to have misplaced my bamboo mat and any time I’ve thought about trying to recreate it, it’s seemed like a massive hassle and I haven’t bothered. Shame though as when my Mum and I dabbled into sushi making before we loved it. It wasn’t too hard (admittedly it didn’t look like pro sushi but was good enough) and very tasty while being incredibly good for you too!

Back then I used cured salmon as I was too shy to attempt raw fish without knowing 100% that it’s sushi grade and I always intended to find out how to obtain sushi grade salmon for my next go. Well, I found out guys, apparently if you just buy a good side of salmon and freeze it to kill any parasites, then once thawed it can be used raw so… Not so hard. Now all I had to do was get me a shushi kit again and that’s where Kelly Loves came in!

Kelly Loves sell lots of different kits to make really good Asian food at home including sushi and they sent me their whopping Ultimate Sushi Kit (£29.99) to get started (again)!

The box arrived shortly after ordering and inside was all I needed to get going, as well as some added extras including a bento box for packed lunches!

It’s a kit with incredible value and all you have to do next is buy your fillings. You can find recipes and how to cook details on their website too but I decided to off piste and start with a fudged together recipe of the blossom rolls you used to be able to buy in Yo! They had a sort of crispy katsu prawn in the middle with raw tuna on the top and lots pf crispy onions. I didn’t much care for the tuna and what I’m looking for is ease at every corner so I made mine with shop bought frozen breaded prawns and a slice of avocado running down the middle then topped with crispy onions and some spicy mayo.

Funnily enough I decided not to bother doing the salmon ones yesterday, I hadn’t pre frozen any and was champing at the bit to get sushi making so I made some simple cucumber rolls to go with the prawn, Florence’s favourite!

It’s ignited a need to make more though so watch this space. It’s actually so easy to do (I’m sure with practice my rolls will become prettier) and super tasty and filling! The kit is awesome and there’s plenty in it to keep me going for a while yet!

Collaboration.
