Shutter Me Perfect!

Shutter Me Perfect!

We all have our special skills and interior design simply isn’t mine. I have ideas, I try to implement them and it almost always comes out not how I expected. In a bad way. I don’t know what it is? I think some people have the eye for it and some, like me, don’t.

Trying to go off piste or fit in with what I “think” is fashionable is the way to make it flop for me for sure. You know those people on Pinterest who paint their living room walls sage green and somehow it works? Not so in my house and after so many disasters I’ve learned. So I stick to white and when it comes to the walls and for everything else, it has to be classic!

You can’t go wrong with the classics, that’s why they got their name. Things that have stood the test of time and still to this day are considered aesthetically pleasing, even when they are also considered an original feature of a Victorian terrace – that’s when I know where I am. The “classics” fit in anywhere, new build, renovation project wherever… If they’re classics, they’re classics. Even modern classics count like a loft conversion, this sort of stuff is never going out of fashion!

So, when we moved from London to our relative new build (yet still a project) I knew I had to have the loft done. Ticked that off the box and have worked my way down painting everywhere white, sticking with the things I know and not really trying to go “out there” too much (when I have, it’s needed doing again, obviously) and we are now downstairs again, painting walls which we did a few year’s ago which have reached their peak and are in need of starting at the beginning again, and I know that it’s about time we finally got those plantation style shutters that everyone, who’s anyone, has in the borough of London we lived in.

The thing about shutter blinds is that I know, without a shadow of a doubt, they will look amazing. I don’t need to have interior designer knowledge or even “the eye”. These are as classic as they come and for sophisticated and chic windows there can be absolutely nothing else. I’ve wanted them for the longest time to fold back and let the light in or to close, as we hunker down on wintry evenings, to make the rooms cosy. They look stunning and some of my neighbours have them already which makes me hanker every time I walk past. I simply adore them, always have and always will but they can be pricy which is why we’ve waited so long to do them. These days however, you can order them on line and fit them yourself safe in the knowledge that they will not only fit correctly but will be easy to install them yourself. “Do it yourself” made easy by the manufacture and how to guides to lead you through the process step-by-step!

They are an investment piece to a home which will last forever. I cannot wait to dress my windows in the style to which they need to become accustomed. Whether it’s a bay window, main window or the windows upstairs in our loft conversion, making the huge dormer windows feel homely instead of just large and where only we will get to enjoy them, this is the classic uniform I want to run throughout my home, I want to “shutter me perfect” and I know I won’t have to worry about getting it wrong because they’re so right.

Collaboration.
