The London Transport Museum Over Half Term!
A week or so ago I wrote about all the fun things the London Transport Museum has on offer for this February half term and yesterday the kiddos and I set off for a day of fun in London which saw us first at a press launch, secondly at the Science museum and lastly, because we couldn’t not go and see for ourselves, checking out their holiday offerings for ourselves!
We just love this museum from the moment we get in the lift that takes us back to the 1800’s to show us what transport was like in the capital back then, we have a brilliant time! They love the talking horses, the motorised mini railways, the buses and trains and taxis you can hop on and off, the pay areas and beyond! I think my favourite has got to be going on all the old tube trains and seeing the old posters inside them whisking me back to a fashion era gone by!
We love the shop too and I’ve spoken much before about how their wares are a cut above with household items and furniture being key pieces of beauty rather than museum gift shop tat and the restaurant just above it is also fabulous for families!
We sadly didn’t have time to stop for a bite to eat on this visit because we wanted to do the whole of the stamp trail and have a play as well as check out their half term highlight, the Women in Transport project, which was fascinating! I love it when the kids get excited about more than just the hands on but it’s because they are so inspired by those elements that they want to take in the education side as well!
We had a brilliant day and are looking forward to more visits very soon! Because you do know that kid’s go FREE and an adult ticket (which costs just £16 on line – £13.50 for concessions) is valid as an annual pass meaing as many visits as you like for a whole YEAR! In March they will be hosting a special Wellbeing Weekend where you can find out more about planning activities and journeys via public transport to lovely hidden spots in London, as well as many more fun creative activities. Then, over the Easter holidays, they will be joined by amazing illustrators who are part of their new exhibition London Storiesfollow. The artists will be talking about their artwork and telling the stories their colourful displays were inspired by. That’s not to forget the year-round events we love, including Museum singing and storytime sessions during term time and Acton toursfollow during school holidays. They also have a special Acton Open Weekend in July for familiesfollow which looks so much fun!
More information about all of the family events are on their website here.
We were invited to the London Transport Museum on this occasion as guests of the museum but we are frequent visitors and always buy a ticket as what’s not to love about an annual for cheap as chips?!
