When Florence was about 2 years old we were at a play group when she started playing with an iron and an ironing board. I was astounded that she knew what to do because children usually learn this sort of mimicking behaviour from home but the thing is, I so very rarely iron that I can barely remember how to do it myself! My tiny little girl knowing exactly what to do with one made me giggle although she’d probably seen my Mum doing it I guess; my Mum would iron a pair of knickers rather than wear them creased but I am much more lazy than that! I’ve even been known to just run my hair straighteners around the hem of a dress (mid hair coiff) while I’m wearing it to save me getting the ironing board out. That’s only when it’s REALLY creased though, usually I just wouldn’t care!
Anyway, Florence has, from then, always made a beeline for an ironing board toy and loved playing at doing the chore I simply want to banish myself. She has a little board at my Mum’s house but at home we’ve never bought one – until now. Florence was so pleased when we came home from holiday to this delivery it made me feel bad for not having invested before now but hey, better late than never!
We were sent the Little Helper Ironing set by Casdon which can be bought at lots of major retailers and it was out of the box before I could blink!
The set comprises of a realistic folding ironing board, a clothes dryer, three coat hangers and a replica iron and it comes flat packed ready to build. The instructions say you need a screwdriver to put it together but actually, we didn’t use one. I was able to push the two screws through and fasten the nuts easily although we were missing one of the nuts. It didn’t matter so much to us though as my ever practical Mum was with us and said she always keeps a spare nut in her purse – as you do – luckily it fit.
Florence absolutely loves it and especially more so because of the realistic clothes dryer and coat hangers. She quickly got to taking all her doll’s clothes off and ironing with Jimmy hot on her heels for his go too! Great little set and even better that it folds completely flat because it’s easy to put away and not notice despite being a fairly big toy when up. We’re very pleased with this one.
We were sent the ironing set for the purpose of an honest review.
