I am very interested in children’s fashion, I love to photograph it, write about it and most of all I love to get my children involved in it. I like them to like what they are wearing and have a hand in choosing. Sometimes the results aren’t what I’d have chosen to put together myself but it’s all about being yourself and owning your own style which I want my children to be confident with.
Florence is very creative and part of that creativity it seems is choosing what to wear; it’s something she started to do when she was just 18 months old or so. She also makes clothes from paper, pens and sticky tape for her Barbie dolls. She, like me, is interested in fashion and I love that she has the skills to create skirts and put her dolls in the things she makes. She may only be four but she’s doing it and she’s doing it well!
When I heard about Skribbies, a high top trainer which can be customised by the child owner over and over again, I just knew they would be fab for Florence! I knew so much so that even though they don’t actually make her shoe size, it wouldn’t matter, I knew she’d want them anyway so that she could get designing and making them her own! I was sent a pair and I was absolutely right because Florence LOVES them!
Florence was very happy with the Skribbies as soon as she saw them!
The trainers come in pink, navy blue or neon black and start at UK kids size 10. Florence is a 7 but we ordered a 10 for her to play with and I thought she could wear them when she gets a bit bigger. At £39.99 I think they’re fairly expensive for kids trainers but then they do have the added feature! They really are quite funky and cool looking even before customisation!
These out of the ordinary high tops come with a set of 6 pens, a wrist band and some stickers to make them unique. You draw and decorate with the pens and stickers then with the wrist band can wipe away and start all over again!
Skribbies come with pens, a wipe away wrist band and stickers!
Florence is thrilled to bits with them and has decorated them many, many times since she has been playing with them (just a couple of days). She doesn’t mind one bit that she can’t wear them out yet and is very happy playing in the house in them instead!
Florence had great fun playing with and decorating the Skribbies!
They are well padded and extremely well made, they have been a super big hit and frankly I’d rather like a pair myself, which wouldn’t be beyond the realms of possibility as they do go up to a UK size 4 -which I am!
My reservations, and as a parent I have these but Florence wouldn’t have a bad word cast, I am concerned about three things. Firstly the pens don’t seem to dry at all and wipe off easily with just a brush or touch. The colour doesn’t seem to actually come off on anything and when I put my finger on, although the pen comes off, there is no mark on my skin but it is still slightly annoying. Secondly, if you get a bit of pen on a non white part of the shoe by accident, it does not come off and I think could make them look shabby quite quickly as it is easily done and thirdly, I don’t see the point of the stickers really? I mean they are ok but they don’t stay on, run out quickly and a bit of a one hit wonder. I would market them without if it were me and maybe include a gold or glittery pen as an alternative.
It’s a fab idea and a fantastic way to get creative, interested in fashion and just really enjoy clothes and footwear! Despite my small reservations, I sense a massive trend coming along!
I was sent a pair of Skribbies trainers for the purpose of an honest review.
