I went to the launch of the Stokke shop at Marylebone store ‘Back In Action‘ a couple of week’s ago and absolutely loved hearing all about the Stokke Tripp Trapp chair. It was desinged by a man called Peter Opsvik many years ago and has been loved by parents ever since but what I hadn’t fully realised was that this chair is actually designed with your baby’s posture in mind and created to totally look after their little backs. It allows children to sit as they are supposed to rather than how we ‘think’ they ‘should’!
there were lots of questions and lots of voices exclaiming that if only they had known when they first had their babies what they know now then they would absolutely have made the Tripp Trapp their choice. I have to say that is exactly how I felt too and thinking I’d missed the boat on it for Florence and Jimmy I decided that when and if then next baby comes along I shall definitely be buying a Tripp Trapp and then… We were told that this chair will take a baby from birth (there is a newborn set to add to it) up to around 10 or 11 and in fact, even grown ups can sit on one… This chaged things in my mind somewhat.
This is the chair that I remember my sister using as a little girl and the chair that I had really wanted to buy when Florence was born but at the time I made the decision that compared to another wooden high chair it was a bit too pricey for me. If only I had known then that the chair would actually last her until she is much more grown up than she is now at 6. If only I had realised how well it looks after their posture? I certainly would have bought one and instead wouldn’t have wasted the money I did spend on the high chair that she barely sat in. It was a false economy and yet again I have realised that mostly you do get what you pay for!
So… As it’s not too late and as they are absolutely no way near being too old for a Tripp Trapp it was decided that to go with our new kitchen (which is painted a beautiful Georgian green and mushroom colour) we would get them the new Hazy Grey Tripp Trapp chairs. I love all the colours (it comes in many) but I couldn’t resist this new grey which is almost white washed on because you can see the grain of the wood through it. It’s the ideal choice for my new country kitchen and when I told the children they couldn’t wait! They have lots of friends with this chair and have always enjoyed sitting in one so were thrilled to find they would be getting one each of their own.
And… We are all SUPER pleased with them now that they are here. The chair costs £169 and we added cusions (£33-£39) for extra comfort and, if I’m honest as they are too old to really need them, for aesthetic purposes. Jimmy has blue shooting stars and Florence has some pastel butterflies. Call me stereotypical if you will, I can’t help it! They do look beautiful and they wipe clean as well as go in the washing machine on a normal wash so they will stay looking this good even after they’ve been assaulted with food – Jimmy is NOT good at being non-messy!
I put the chairs together myself in about half an hour. That’s for the both of them and it requires only the Allen key that it comes with. I made the mistae of not properly looking at the clear instructions and tightened everything up before sliding in the seat and foot plate so it took me a little longer as I had to go around and loosen everything thin re-tighten once they were in the positions I chose (obviously you can move the seat and foot plate as your child grows). But they were up and honestly the most tricky part was working out which way to fold the cushions – but then I might be a bit dim when it comes to these things and I got there in the end!
They were so super easy to put together that I am thinking of taking one apart and then doing a video tutorial on how to put it together because I could do it in real time and then show you exactly how easy the process is!
The children were, as predicted, THRILLED!
I love the way they sit so neatly under my table, which isn’t the biggest and in fact isn’t a real table but a rather silly size and actually an 18th century butchers block. It’s difficult to get chairs to sit neatly around it but as luck would have it both Stokke Tripp Trapps sit perfectly underneath!
And the foot rest is perfect for looking after their posture too. My children are fairly small and their little feet just dangle in normal chairs but with the tripp Trapp it adds a lot of comfort for them! It also looks after their backs and encourages them to sit upright and in a way that will make them the most cofortable!
We are beyong happy with the Tripp Trapps and absolutely recommend buying one from birth of course but want to tell you all that it really isn’t ever too late to make the switch! I would like to add that I too have beein sitting in the Tripp Trapps and no wonder the kids love them so much, they’re brilliantly comfortable and they might actually have to fight me for it because I love sitting in it too!
At the same time we got our grey tripp Trapp chairs for the big kids, my friend Sam also got one for her little baby Ronnie who is possibly the most chubby cheeked baby I’ve ever seen and frankly Sam is lucky that I haven’t run away with him. I can’t stop kissing those cheeks when I see him and I HAD to show you a picture of him in his Storm Grey (which is a bolder and more blocky grey than mine) Tripp Trapp too! He’s less than 6 months old this lovely little boy and he is adoring sitting up at the table having his first tastes of food with his family of three older brothers. I think he’s just been waiting to be like the big boys and now he can. Sam says he’s totally and utterly in love with sitting in the chair (which she has bought a tray for (£39) and says is brilliant) and is enjoying his new ‘baby led weaning’ experience in style! Ronnie gets to sit up perfectly with the Baby Set (£47) and another of those lovely, lovely cushions!
So… I’m sure that I shall be bringing you more tales of the fantastic Tripp Trapp and I promise to try and do that real time build video for YouTube soon!
For now we just want to give it a massive thumbs up! We LOVE the Tripp Trapp!
