I would say that when it comes to bags I probably have a few too many! I know my husband definitely thinks so! I love them you see and can never quite bring myself to part with any old ones.Since having children I have extended my collection further still as I now have a nice little collection of baby changing bags too! But… Unlike my regular bags, I don’t keep them if they aren’t very good! You see a baby change bag has to be many things and if it isn’t… Well, it’s not worth having!
In a change bag I think it’s important to look for one that comes with a changing mat, some don’t which I find baffling. The change mat should be big enough for the baby to comfortably lie on but not so big it takes up too much room in the bag and ideally, it has to be wipe clean!
Other important features are bottle/drinks pockets, lots of individual pockets inside and outside the bag, something that Daddy won’t mind carrying and something with an adjustable strap… It also has to be big because a lot needs to go in it! Nappies, clothing changes, snacks… The list is quite extensive and if you have more than one child then that list only grows! I also don’t want something SO big that it’s unwieldy and awkward when hanging on my buggy! I think my requirements are pretty standard but as I said, lots of change bags take common sense and throw it away… I have seen some very odd ones indeed!
The one I’ve been trying out recently gets a lot of ticks from me! Major plus points with the Summer City Tote from Summer Infant are as follows:
Big enough for lots of nappies, wipes and clothing changes which all go in a separate side pocket!
Change mat which is big enough for a one year old but folds flat and sits on the base of the bag not taking up any room at all!
Zipped side pocket inside with other mesh pockets and the nappy pocket mentioned above with a substantial pocket on the outside too.
Fabulous bottle carriers on either end of the bag which are super easy to get drinks in and out of but which prevent them from falling out when bending over.
Adjustable strap with shoulder pad and carry handles to boot too!
Dark colour which although has a floral pattern, is not too feminine and my husband would happily be seen out with it!
I’ve also liked the simple fact that not only is the change mat wipe clean but indeed the whole bag is! It’s dark which is a bit of a plus with small children but it’s definitely not boring, in fact, it’s very aesthetically pleasing with a nice shape and design! It’s interesting with two different tones and attractive without being too noticeable – men could easily get away with hanging it on the buggy! It’s also lime green on the inside, a good colour so that you can see in easily! I don’t know if this was designed as a feature or a happy co-incidence just because it looks good but when you’re searching in a bag a light bright colour like this certainly helps.
I filled the bag up to the very brim to see what it was like full but there’s so much room in it that I really didn’t need to! I was very impressed with it over all. It hangs on my buggy handle whether I have it as a double or a single which some of my bags can’t cope with and when I’m carrying it the shoulder strap pad makes it comfortable. You can also carry it with the hand straps and The extending shoulder strap is good for this!
