Summer Holidays 2023 – Week 1 (and -1&2)!

The summer holidays started for Florence on my birthday weekend so I’m calling them summer holidays weeks – 1&2! And now the boys have finally broken up too we’ve had our first week all together. What a busy time we’ve had with busy birthday celebrations for me being an evening beach trip to Cromer for me and the littles, a day at Center Parcs and then a very soggy beach day in Southwold followed by wine and Chinese with friends. It was busy and fun and then a fortnight of madness ensued before the boy’s end of term and now finally, finally they’ve broken up too but with that came a massive amount of plans and busy days all at once!

We had an end of term celebration picnic on the common in our village for the reception year which I organised with Florence coming to do hair and glitter, I made cakes and it was so lovely to get everyone together. The next day was the leavers party for year 6, another thing I organised with help from friends and with a lot of baking we pulled of the best party for Jimmy’s very special year group before they all go off to different high schools in September. It was awesome, even if I do say so myself! Then, after two late nights burning the candle at both ends with both parties finished up with wine, we were very kindly given tickets to Latitude Festival by a friend of a friend of friend who couldn’t go. So, Florence and I headed to the festival where we just had THE BEST day together. “Just us” doesn’t happen very often for me and only one child, it’s very rare indeed for the bigger ones to get me to themselves so it was pretty special, and we couldn’t have asked for a better day out together. We saw The Bootleg Beatles, Romesh Ranganathan, The Proclaimers, Kiefer Sutherland and the amazing George Ezra and when we didn’t get home till one am, having done 30k steps each, we were exhausted yet replete. What a day! So after that we’ve tried to have a semi quiet week with play dates, a trip to Gressenhall taking a pal for the day too and a bit of family swimming fun all while Daddy and Gram get on top of the gardening at hers! Oh but it was an exciting start and we’ve more fun to come.
