This summer, Tesco have refreshed their range of pre-packed fresh fish to include everything from prawn cocktails, crispy fishcakes, hot smoked salmon and simply prepared fresh fish fillets.
We have a Tesco just round the corner and I regularly buy from the pre-packed and fresh counter because we just adore salmon. We’re not terribly adventurous, occasionally we will opt for mussels or scallops if we’re feeling really daring but really, when salmon is SO good for you as well as tasty then why deviate too much?
There’s plenty to choose from – whether you’re cooking an easy summer supper or spur
of the moment BBQ. And for picnics, lunches or food on-the-go, there are more ready-to-eat fish and shellfish dishes too.
If you’re put off cooking fish by the thought of handling or preparing it, Tesco have done the
hard work for you. There’s a whole range of faff-free, ready to cook dishes to choose from and to add a bit of inspiration to mealtimes, Tesco have included a ‘Why not try… serving
suggestion to every pack so you’re never stuck for ideas. I love that the fresh fish counter also provides you with garlic, herb or chilli butter absolutely free, even if you are buying pre-packed fish! Just a bit of butter with the chilli in it is delicious on salmon by the way!
We were sent some vouchers to try some of the other fish options that they have and Tesco Salmon Kebabs with Garlic & Herb – made for al fresco dining sounded yum as did the Tesco Hot Smoked Salmon Fillets with Maple BBQ – succulent salmon fillets marinated with sweet, sticky maple BBQ sauce. I do love fish on the BBQ!
In the end we went for the Tesco Finest fish cakes but we couldn’t decide which flavour so we bought all three!
Tesco Finest Fish Cakes: Thai Prawn, Smoked Haddock and Fish Pie Inspired!
We all ate them. So six between four of us (and the children, truth be told, only had half each) and we were really rather full but we do like to take the testing of food seriously and do it properly!
Yummy fish cakes!
I loved the delicate yet with a kick of spice to the Thai Prawns and the Fish Pie Inspired (which the children ate) was super yummy with a melting middle. The haddock one was, if I’m honest, a little disappointing and a bit dry but it could be just next to the other two as they were so delicious!
The melting middle of the Fish Pie Inspired made them my favourite of the bunch!
Over all I was very impressed and would recommend a noodle stir fry to serve with the Thai Prawn ones and just vegetables like we had for the others. I think a little sauce could perk the Haddock ones up no end, maybe even just a home made mustard mayonnaise!
We were sent vouchers to try the fish range in return for an honest review.
