I missed the launch party for a new vegetarian range at Tesco a few weeks ago but have seen many, many good things on social media about it since. Tesco’s new Vegetarian Kitchen is made up from a selection of ready meals and items like mushroom burgers or cheese and leek sausages (which are just up my street) and the social media world has been alight with positive reports!
I was asked if I’d like to try some of the range myself so that I could post about it on the blog if I liked it and, well, here I am writing so that tells you that I do!
My Tesco doesn’t actually stock much of the range so I didn’t have a great deal of choice when it came to deciding and the dish which I bought probably wasn’t one I would have chosen had more options been available. I love the sound of the mushroom burgers and probably would have gone for them with some added mozzarella and avocado salsa in a brioche bun (which Tesco also now stock) I think they would be delicious for a BBQ! Instead I brought home the Indian Vegetable Tikka.
This is a ready meal of course, which I am often a little dubious about although Tesco has good form with me as their ‘Finest’ range is usually very good. This vegetarian tikka can be heated in wither a microwave or an oven in the packaging it comes in and I opted for the oven as I do think things tend to taste a little better when cooked that way.
It looked nice which is obviously the immediate thing to look for. I’ve opened things in the past and they’ve really not had a pleasing aesthetic which just puts me off from the start. This dish also had an inviting aroma and despite being meat free was very hearty and filling. Tasty? Definitely and the rice was rather yummy too.
Vegetarian food can often be bland and unsubstantial but this was absolutely not either. I’d definitely buy it again and I’m looking forward to trying more of the range too!
I worked with Tesco to create this post.
