For those with a love of animals, waking up on a farm or at a zoo could possibly be one of the most amazing experiences they’re ever likely to have. There are plenty of zoos and farms around the UK now that allow you to stay over for a night or two, just remember to pack suitable clothing as in some cases you can get hands on with the animals during your stay! Mens’ and womens’ jeans, (you’ll find great value womens jeans at George at ASDA and other low cost retailers) T shirts, vests, sweaters and trainers and wellies will come in handy, that’s for sure. So once you have everything you need for your stay, which farm or zoo should you choose for this unique experience? Have a look:
Howletts and Port Lympne
If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to be on safari, yet you don’t quite have safari style money in the bank, this option could well be for you. With several options available for staying at one of these great safari parks, you’ll be able to experience what it’s like staying on an African safari at the Livingstone Lodge where you’ll stay surrounded by the 100 acre African Wilds section of the park. Here the animals are free to roam, just like they would be in Africa. You get to watch the sun go down overlooking the park and looking out across the English Channel to France before being served an exquisite meal and being told all about Africa and the conservation work of the Aspinall Foundation by your guides. If you prefer staying in something a little more sturdy, there’s the Livingstone Cottage, which can also be rented while on safari, and there’s even a family glamping experience, which the kids will absolutely love.
Combe Mill
This hugely popular family farm in Cornwall, is a wonderful place to visit with young children. Everything from the accommodation to the facilities has been so well thought out, to include play rooms in the accommodation itself, tractor rides with the friendly farmer, lots of opportunities to meet the animals and so much more. There are ponies, deer, alpaca, miniature donkeys, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, ducks, peacocks and rabbits to name just a few of the animals on site, all of whom can be fed every morning with Farmer Nick on the tractor ride. It’s the kind of place you can go and completely escape your busy every day lives, yet still have fun with the few other families who’ll be staying on the farm at the same time as you. You’ll want to return again and again – in fact, many families do.
Whether you choose to stay on a farm or at a zoo or safari park, it’s such a once in a lifetime experience that you’ll never want to leave. You’d never imagine that you could sleep under the stars in such close proximity to lions and giraffe for example, or wake in the morning to fresh eggs and a cuddle with the resident bunny rabbits. So why not make it a reality and experience it for yourself.
Farm fun!
