We live in a 2 bedroom flat in East London, hopefully this is soon to be rectified when we put it on the market and embark upon a move to a house although we haven’t fully decided on WHERE this new house to buy will be. Whether we stay in London or move back to Norfolk we’re looking forward to having enough room for a family of four (unlike now) and creating the perfect place for us (I rather fancy a fixer upper you see) but for now, our palace is our small but lovely flat.
Being a flat without much room and having two small children you really have to keep on top of absolutely everything when it comes to cleaning and tidying as the slightest bit of mess makes it look ridiculously untidy and if one small area needs cleaning it makes it look like the whole house is a tip! My best tip for our (odd choiced with children) cream carpet is to make sure I have a decent mat just inside our front door. I hate having to go to the bottom of our stairs (we are first floor in a Victorian Terrace conversion) and clean mud from the landing all the way up the flipping stairs!
Having a mat at the bottom is a must but it has to be one which absorbs water well, catches mud, stays in one place and is very good at getting clean itself. All of this plus I want something which looks great, I love quirky things and I really want my flat to be appealing to the eye from the off.
Turtle Mats (www.turtlemat.co.uk) are great because they tick all of those boxes for me with their super absorbent cotton tufts which trap moisture and mud, the fact they are machine washable (and can be tumble dried) and of course they look the part too! There are loads of different patterns from very ordinary and plain to patterned, floral and even some really cool ones with slogans as well as special editions. I chose, to be ironic, one which reads ‘Welcome To The Palace‘, well you’ve got to have a laugh haven’t you!
It’s been catching all of our wet, muddy winter feet and I’ve definitely had much less to clean on the stairs! Brilliant! It also, I think you’ll agree, is a bit of a tongue in cheek fun way to welcome people in. At £49.99 is IS expensive for a door mat but good door mats ARE expensive and this one is really great!
We’re very pleased with our ‘Turtle Mat’ and when we actually move into a proper palace (well, just a house would do) then it will be coming with us!
I was sent the door mat for the purpose of an honest review.
We’ve had our 2 turtle mats coming up 8 years. They still do a great job. I wouldn’t tumble dry them as they dry so quick on the radiator or washing line.
