UK staycations to consider in 2023
As 2023 gets closer, many of us have begun starting to think about holidays for next year. With the joy of Christmas over, January can be a difficult time and so planning a staycation is a great way to avoid those January blues and give yourself something to look forward to. But how to find the best places to visit?! Here are just some of the lovely locations in the UK that are worth considering, with options if you are travelling with little ones too.
York
Small yet mighty, York is the perfect option for a getaway. Easily accessible, with trains to York available from across the UK, it is a good option if you plan on meeting friends from different locations. With the perfect mixture of culture, and fun, York offers something for everyone, including the kids! If you enjoy history, there is the York Minster, the Jorvik Viking Centre, and the York Castle Museum to explore. There are also plenty of nice restaurants and cafes to enjoy if that is more your thing.
Edinburgh
Edinburgh is popular for good reason and is a fantastic choice for a staycation. If you are looking for a holiday that combines the perks of a city with the benefit of walking and views, then Edinburgh is for you. You will be able to shop, explore the city’s history, and experience stunning views from Arthur’s Seat all in one holiday. If you enjoy going out for drinks, then you’re likely to be highly impressed by Edinburgh’s hidden bar scene; do some online research to discover their best-kept secret.
If you are travelling with the kids then there are plenty of museums, like the National Museum of Scotland, as well as Edinburgh Zoo and some gorgeous walks around the botanical gardens.
Brighton
If you want to stay in the UK but still fancy a beach holiday, then Brighton could be a good option. Just shy of 50 miles from London, Brighton is famous for so much, including its nightlife and beach. A trip here gives you the perfect opportunity to enjoy days on the beach and doughnuts on the pier, to partying at night. There are plenty of family-friendly activities too, including arcades, watersport activities and Sea Life. As well as all the usual high street shops, Brighton has a well-known shopping area called The Lanes which showcases lots of independent shops and eateries, ideal for exploring. Before visiting Brighton, it is well worth doing some additional research into what events are on during your time there as there will most likely be something you’d enjoy.
Bath
Famous, as suggested by its name, for the Roman Baths, Bath is definitely a strong contender for a UK staycation. A visit to the baths themselves is a must if it is your first time, however, there is also plenty more to explore. If you enjoy a pamper then Bath’s rooftop pool and spa might be something you’d enjoy. If you’d prefer to indulge in some history, then you can take a wander down the Royal Crescent and visit just some of the museums and art galleries that Bath has to offer. For the kids, why not try the Spy Mission Treasure Trail or a kayak city tour?
