The AxissFix car seat by Maxi-Cosi is the latest model in their fleet of seats which just seem to get better and better in terms of what they offer and less and less complicated to use – thankfully! I have always wanted my children to be in isofix based car seats but with my old car not supporting the bases it wasn’t an option. We now have a shiny new seven seater as was necessary with the birth of our third child and though he’s been in our old Maxi-Cosi Cabriofix (non isofix integrated and with a carry handle) since he was born, and though I am happy with the job our old seat has done and continues to do as we have two cars, I have always thought something with an isofix base would be easier.
I realise that they aren’t safer but somehow they do feel it as they are locked into place and they are, 100% easier to use as there is no faffing with the car seatbelt and I reckon when using a non isofix base, it’s much easier to put the seat into the car incorrectly. With something attached to an isofix base it’s done, it’s in, there’s no worry about that!
So we’ve been trying out the AxissFix and its state of the art safety features combined with the ability to swivel the seat 360°. This is immense as it’s not at all awkward to get the baby in and out of the seat, simply swivel it to face you to out him in and then swivel it back into the rear facing position. It literally takes only seconds to put the baby in and coupled with the fact it’s on an integrated isofix base and there’s no car seat belt to deal with it makes for a much smoother car get in.
The new AxissFix by Maxi-Cosi is approved from 4 months to approximately 4 years and grows with the baby. At the moment we have Raffie rear facing and will continue to do so for as long as possible as this is proven to be safest but this seat will forward face as well and it reclines whichever way you are facing. The seat is also very padded which is great and it looks very comfortable as well as having safety features like a headrest with high performance impact-absorbing material for extra protection in case of lateral impact.
What do we like:
- We love the fact the car seat swivels, this is so helpful and though I’d seen this feature on friend’s car seats I’d never used it myself and had totally underestimated the benefit.
- It’s great that the seat can go from 4 months to 4 years as well as being forward or rear facing meaning it’s an investment which will last.
- There’s a lot of room in the seat even when rear facing. Lots of space for longer legs as the baby grows I can see.
- The seat is very padded and the baby always looks comfy and cosy. The recline is very gentle too which is ace for when he falls asleep.
- Having a built in isofix base makes everything a lot easier as obviously once installed you don’t have to worry. Apparently and according to my husband the installation was very easy too – I’ll take his word for it as this is not my forte and just like putting the bins out I class this as ‘his’ job… Really I’m just lazy!
What we don’t like:
- It’s a shame that I can’t use this seat outside the car as I can with my Cabriofix. I swim a lot and use the carry handle to take him onto the poolside where he naps while I exercise. I also use it on the buggy. I won’t use the AxissFix full time because I like the freedom of being able to take my baby out of the car in his car seat but for all long journeys or when I know that’s not needed then I will. I suppose the dreamer would be having an AxissFix chair on a removable isofix base and have it compatible with buggies… But you can’t have everything now can you!
All in all the AxissFix is a tremendous buy and I’m incredibly pleased with all the features it offers. As is Raffie!
