Askamum love my blog, ooo-errr how exciting!
Not being a worrier about exposing my boobs while breast feeding I don’t use a nursing cover at home but felt when abroad it might be appropriate to show a little modesty. I decided to take with me the Bebe Au Lait nursing cover (£27.99) and I’m surprised at how handy I found it but for different reasons than I initially thought I would! Now, first let me tell you about the cover. It’s light and made from breathable material which feels cool against your skin, it’s also very attractive with a delicate pattern in muted colours (obviously there are lots of colours and patterns to choose from) and it’s big so it covers a lot of you if needed. In the bottom two corners on the inside are towelling pockets which I kept dummies in and used like muslins to wipe away dribbles and the neckline is stiffened so you can keep it slightly open giving you and the baby a way to still see each other. I’d also like to point out that the neck strap has an adjustable buckle meaning you can make it fit to your own requirements.
I thought I would use the cover at night-time in restaurants but in actual fact Jimmy slept most of the way through our evening meals and I found that instead I was using it in the day time whilst feeding by the pool. Having been a life model in the past I’m not that worried about baring all but in the sunshine it’s important that Jimmy’s skin is totally protected so I mainly used it as a sun shade whilst feeding. Because the material is as I said, breathable, I don’t think either of us felt stifled in the heat from having it over us which was wonderful. The other plus point for me was that Jimmy has now reached the age where he is easily distracted making feeding times last longer than they necessarily could. Having the cover over him meant he was kept from looking around him at all the exciting things going on and was able to concentrate on the job in hand! For this reason I will be using the cover when out and about now we are home too and I didn’t expect to be saying that at all! It’s not something I would have bought because I really don’t care if my boob is seen or not but now that I have realised it helps with getting him to focus on feeding I am finding it invaluable! I suppose because I will have it on me I may use it at more civilised places such as the wedding I’m going to in a couple of weeks too which is probably more appropriate than exposing myself to a load of people I don’t know whilst in a formal dress! It’s a lovely cover and the quality is far superior to other covers I have looked at. I also particularly like the handy inside pockets! The thing about this cover is that you can use it as lots of different things, it is large enough to use as a blanket etc so it’s a great product for holidays! Very glad we packed this one, especially as folded up it is very small indeed!
Here’s me feeding by the pool. I wasn’t actually worried about who saw my boobs but I wanted to stay in the sun and Jimmy’s delicate skin is far too precious to be exposed so this covered him up nicely!
