Crazy Forts For Christmas!
What do all kids love to play? Building dens! that’s what! And if you’re a parent then you’ll know the pain of having all the furniture rearranged, with all the blankets that can be found draped over make shift forts of sofas, chairs and anything else which will give leverage to a structure. And that’s great but… Not terribly tidy, or practical, and, let’s face it, not easy either!
I saw something recently at a press show which I was kindly gifted a pack of to try with my own children and it completely does away with all the room rearranging, while at the same time taking nothing away from the joy of building a fort or a den, it’s called Crazy Forts and comprises, essentially, of rods to stick into balls until you have the desired armature to drape the blankets over (sorry guys, can’t do anything about the blanket situation)!
What it does also promise is a really easy to tidy away structure, which takes up very little room indeed and yet gifts hours of fun in both the building and the play. And it’s not just forts and dens you can build either. Jimmy (age 12) is a master builder and has been building like a pro since he was a toddler. With the Crazy Forts set we were gifted (Crazy Forts Original set) he’s been creating, with his 7 year old brother, the most fun things including a rugby goal post which, although goes wildly against my no ball games in the house, is just a genius build!
The balls have holes all over them to get the poles in at various different angles and you can add to your set with more kits to make bigger and better structures if you want to. However, there’s everything you need in this kit to make absolutely terrific things with and both boys, along with their 3 year old sister, have been having great fun with the kit. I love that it can grow and be a collection to add to. You can even buy some balls which have lights in them which is really fun, especially for an overnight camp out (we are going to get some for them for Christmas to compliment their kit)!
The poles in the original kit are rigid so you do have to make right-angled frames but they also do a flexi kit with the same number of poles and balls (each kit has 69 pieces) but the poles on this one bend, this would be another great addition to the things my kids can build! There’s also a pink set, and another which is glow in the dark!
We’ve been super impressed by this toy which when not in use takes up very little space, spans interest in all different ages and gets them working together, before playing together too. Brilliant idea which is executed perfectly! What’s not to love?! And you don’t have to build a fort wither, Jimmy’s been building all sorts and loving it, look at his rugby goal posts here – genius!
The original kit can be bought in Smyth’s Toys for £39.99.
