Is there anything better when getting into bed than brand new, straight from the packet bed sheets? I’m pretty sure everyone feels the same. I was talking to a friend about this very thing just last week and we both agreed, there’s something wholly wonderful about a night’s sleep in brand new bedding. My friend told me she buys tons of bedding because she just can’t resist that feeling and then has to hide it all from her husband so that he doesn’t know she’s been splurging on it again… It got me thinking about my own bedding…
Unfortunately, despite my love of bedding, I don’t seem to have very much of it. What I do have is very old and tired and, after having children sleep with us most nights, it’s definitely picked up the odd stain here and there. To be fair the majority of my bedding needs to be thrown straight into the bin. ESPECIALLY the brown (yep brown?!) silken sheets which Jonny bought one day for reasons which are still unknown to me?
I love sleeping and I love just being in bed in general. I watch TV in my bed, knit in my bed and enjoy countless cups of herbal tea in my treasured collection of mis-matched turn pf the century cups and saucers before I fall asleep. My husband has just started working away during the week and for the most part the bed is mine, all mine but… It just isn’t very well dressed.
We had our house on the market recently (although we’ve taken it off for a few months as it’s more convenient to move nearer to Christmas) and when they came to take the pictures of our room I had to choose the lesser of the evils. So, the brown satins had to go on the bed. Absolutely awful they are but sans stains from baby related incidents and realising I had no time to pop to the shops as I had previously planned, I had no choice.
I’ve been meaning to do something about it for ages and just buy some decent bedding which looks lovely and doesn’t cost the earth as well as being at least a 200 thread count. I found Yorkshire Linens and have found my perfect pieces!
The Warwick 200 thread count duvet set in white with an extra pillow set and a white fitted sheet to go under it! Heck, I might even get a duck egg patchwork throw and some curtains to match. I love white, so cooling in the summer but for the winter months a patchwork quilt is just what I need to make me feel all ‘Ma Walton’ singing good night to the family every evening as I go to bed.
I think it would all sit rather nicely in my bedroom and I’m sure I’ll enjoy many cups of herbal brew with a click clack of the knitting needles. Some might say white is a fools choice with children but hey, I like to live on the wild side!
My bedroom is fine but it so needs this bedding to brighten it up from its silken drudge colour of the moment! I’ll post again when it’s all on my bed and looking beautiful, I just know it’s going to make such a difference!
UPDATE!
And what a difference it’s made! The bedding is even more lovely than I thought it would be. Slightly silky to the touch and finished off really nicely with the throw. I washed and tumble dried them and they came up perfectly, if a little creased, but not so much I had to get the iron out so all good! Loving my new bedding!
